I was in the Marines. I was part of the airwing - Hawk Missile. We shot down planes.

Not me. Can't handle the structure.

But thankful for all the vets who served, and are serving the country.

U.S. Navy here. Four years, Hawaii, Philippines, Japan.

part of the reason I enlisted was because I thought I could easily go to Japan...! Should've done Navy or Marines. Although 3 years in Germany was not too shabby, as long as we weren't in the "field"...which was hardly ever.

Yep, six years US Navy & never once set foot on a ship. Went to Florida, Illinois, Virginia and Texas for various training schools then on to duty stations in Okinawa, Guam and Florida. Very much enjoyed the tours overseas, spent almost three years in Okinawa in the '70's and loved every minute of it.

p.s. happy belated Veterans Day to all who have served!

I lived in Baumholder, closest larger city is Idar-Oberstien. I loved it...I used to go to nightclubs in Frankfurt all the time, and down on the French border in Saarbrucken. I really miss Germany, I probably spent 10,000 dollars on beer.

Air Force...that's where you get treated like a human being , right? We used to do air-mobile operations from the US airbases in Germany...we were always way jealous of the Air Force chow halls, living quarters, girls...everything!

Yeah, they treat you like a human, more like a pet dog.

Haha! Well, you were smart, at least you learned a marketable skill. I remember my recruiter asking me if I liked to camp out, I said yes and he was like "Oh you'll love the Infantry"!

Yeah , they almost got me in the Marines that way. My best friend and I went to the Marine Recruitment center and they showed us a little video that gets you all Gung-Ho about the Marines. When the guy sat me down and asked if I was interested in the Marines, I asked him if they would guarantee me a job as a firefighter, he said no, I said "No Thanks!"

This is sort of funny, I was in the Air Force for five years, and the only planes I was on were NOT AF planes. In fact, I never even saw an AF plane.
