Well.

I'm out of work until January (My other job) and I'm going to grow a really cheesy mustache.

Out of curiosity, who else got axed?

I had a couple of really good months as well, but all of that was work coming from clients' 2008 budgets. My fingers are crossed about the 2009 budgets... But even if those end up being less-than-stellar there's always work out there, sometimes you just have to dig a little bit harder for it.

I'm fortunate my job is stable. I work for a large cosmetics company, and no matter how bad the economy may gets, women around the world will always need makeup.

Sorry to hear about the job losts. I have lost all my car dealerships and subcontracting with janitor companies. I can't grow a mustache because my wife says I give her rug burn.

I was axed in my former employer's last round of layoffs. Job hunt competition is very fierce. I'm taking a break from the search until mid-January. Obviously this has cut deeply into my toy budget. It's really sad seeing how the economy is affecting collectors and retailers. On the other hand ample free time has allowed me more time for my art, gardening, and cooking hobbies. Hang in there everyone!

Only coz your company is printing all the pink slips all these poor fuckers are getting handed when they're asked to leave the premises quietly... At least man up about it

Ricky's got a good point, it will be interesting to see what 2009 calendar-year budgets do to client-based work. Company bean-counters are shooting their wads with what is leftover from fiscal year '08.

There was a huge round of layoffs this past Friday. Luckily for me,I had enough seniority to survive - at least for now - although I was forced to change to working nights. The general feeling is that more cuts are on the way. Wait and see.

Where I work (Buffalo News) they basically let go all the new hires/ did a hiring freeze, consolidated some positions, and moved people to other departments. The part time list shrank from like 24 to 12. Where I used to be 7th in seniority with all the others below me, now I have just 5 below me. Does not bode well. Fucking economy. It's like everyone is so damned panic stricken

Since I'm a full-time student, my GF & scholarships has been keeping us afloat.. She was on a 5 month contract, which ended up being a "less than 30 day" contract. :x

I do all the hiring and training at work and my job has gotten really easy. I am seeing overly qualified people jump at the peanut wages we offer who would have never even filled out an application before. I've got a staff right now that kills because they are just excited to have a job! I'm just hoping the still need someone to hire more of them!

Just out of curiosity, but in the past (under better conditions) would you turn people away for being over-qualified?

Weird world we're in.

No, just wouldn't see the kind of quality hires I'm seeing right now as often. I am having new people willing to take a 4 to 5 dollar an hour pay cut to be on staff.

i do drywall & painting work because i own dogs and have to work odd hours
as i have no one to watch them. this type of work used to be plentiful and
i always had more available than i could take on.

last few months work has dried up and i am getting less and less work. plus
by the time i caught on it was too late to suppliment with a seasonal pt job and
so i am trying to figure out things ahead of time for spring.

and then.. now my landlord told me today he is selling my apartment and i will
have to move out by march 15th. its a ways out there but the way things are going
financially i honestly don't know how i am going to swing it.

no way i am giving up my dogs, its hard finding a descent place that is ok with
having pets so i might have to live in a not so nice area to keep them. sorry to
seem so down but like i said i work used to be plentiful.

i am re-learning to be thankful at the most simple of things tho i wonder what will
tomorrow brings. to friends i am thankful, especially ones i have made here, at least
wanting a toy that is hard to find is justification to sell my mustasche for food.

best wishes to everyone here & lets hope for a better future.
