A really REALLY fascinating essay by Jodorowsky about his failed Dune adaptation

I wish this was made

This movie would have been amazing. The Incal is a book Moebius and Jodorowsky put together with all the Dune leftovers.

That's really funny, I just emailed this link to someone a couple of hours ago.

The bit with Dali and the Emperor's, uh, "throne" really got me. I would have loved to have seen this made.

I like David Lynch's version for the style, but not the story, and while John Harrison's version is truer to the book I think he should have a screwdriver stuck in his ear for it. Peter Jackson could probably get a good version done.

haven't seen the sci-fi channel version and Peter Berg (hancock) is attached the direct the remake...yeah, seriously.

Dali as the emperor would have been one of the most bizarre things ever put on film.

and

H.R. Giger's Harkonean planet would have been absolutely gorgeous.

bummer.

Yeah, I've seen clips of this stuff on one of the dvds in the box set that came out last year.

Back in the day, the only place that had Jodorowsky's movies for rent was Vidiots in Santa Monica. I rented El Topo and Holy Mountain there; unfortunately, it was the Japanese 'edited' versions. I convinced some friends to go see Santa Sangre when it played at the Nuart Theatre in West L.A.; almost lost some friends that evening. :(

Jodorowsky's Dune would have been a cult masterpiece. What a shame.

Jodorowsky would have totally nailed Dune. And I can't believe, as much as i love Lynch, that he made a complete piece of crap. I'm guessing he didn't get free-reign in making this movie, but still!

I would kill someone I estimated no one would miss for this.

In his book, Catching The Big Fish, he mentions over and over how his hands were tied when it came to Dune and how dissapointed he was with the end result. Personally, I really enjoyed the movie. I thought the sets and costumes were great and I appreciate that he uses the same band of freaks from movie to movie. Sting, also did a real nice job.

J.B. - I highly recommend that you buy the audio book of Catching the Big Fish...even if you already have the text.

Baron Harkonnen from Lynch's movie gave me nightmares for weeks.

I'd love to have seen a Jodorowsky version of Dune, however.

I was packing up my books and found that I have two Japanese Dune movie programs. If anyone's interested in my extra one, it's yours for $10 shipped in the US. Please send me a PM.

Lynch seems to usually falter when it comes to bending to producer's wills, most notably announcing who killed Laura Palmer, which I believe he has been quoted as saying is the biggest regret of his career. If only he had complete control on the Dune project it might have been as good as it was attractive.

As in, "I'd kill for this" re: Jodorowsky's Dune but being a compassionate guy, I would make sure whoever I killed didn't have any friends or loved ones that would miss them. Perhaps a shut in or dangerously mentally ill homeless person. Realistically I'll just watch Holy Mountain again and wait patiently for King Shot in 09' hoping Marilyn Manson doesn't suck all the charisma out of it.
