http://www.formatmag.com/features/mishk ... u-of-2008/

Online magazine, Format Magazine, asked us to pitch them a few ideas for a Best of lists of 2008. They chose two: "Top 10 things to get stoned to in 2008" and "Top 10 Kaiju of 2008!"

I am really glad they picked us cause this opens the world of Kaiju to an even large audience! It was an amazing year and I am super stoked on 2009! Please feel free to applaud, argue, amend, belittle or discuss my decisions below! Sorry I haven't been on the board much, so busy, big big things a coming!

Extra special thanks to Kirkland and Lamour Supreme with helping getting this list together! And extra specialy thanks to all the amazing artists/designers/owners/creators for your quotes and photos of your amazing Kaiju!

Happy New Year!

Congrats on having the list chosen!

Some nice choices and great photos. Personally, I find the list a bit too heavily weighted/focused on a few companies. Instead of doubling up on SB, RxH, and Gargamel, I might have chosen a figure from Ilanena, Cronic, Blobpus, Shikaruna, and/or Itokin Park.

Anyway, any word that grows the kaiju love is a good word!

zudon or mg5 could be on that list easily before a fortune cat or mixed up mantis... both of those sell out like crazy

cool list though!

I think thats a good point. If its talking to people who have never seen these type of figures before maybe the net could have been cast wider.

hey sell out almost immediately, and then the resale value is 8-10x the retail price, only in one day!

That line makes me  Sounds like mr 2 head Bemon is top of the list because he's mr exclusive and can be sold for the highest amount :?

(ignoring the fact he looks like a mcfarlane toy.... )

yeah, meeting Caballero would be pretty awesome. He was my idol back (way back) in the day when I used to skate.

yes,,cab has been my skate hero since i was 10...

it was exciting to see that he has a blog...

although,,i delved too far into it last night & learned that he is now a prudish,,born-again type christian :( :(

now i regret looking too deep into his blog,,,some things are better left untouched...

as long as he doesn't go on that scary born-again healing skater show with hosoi,,i will turn a blind eye,,,he is still one of the best skaters EVER!!!!

Well, since you're encouraging honesty...

Gorilla Biscuits is too "urban" for my tastes and would never have made a list.

Cure Boogieman? I would have gone with a Dempagon.

The Kaiju Taro Lucky Cat? I guess if you're trying to make the list appeal to a broad range of readers.

Not sold on the RxH Kiss set. If you wanted to feature RxH, I'd have gone with the Kamen Rider Evil.
If you wanted a set of minis I would have gone with the S7 set.

One of the weaker Ojo Rojos in my opinion.

Strange how Paul Kaiju's Grodnoid is pictured but not really acknowledged.
Personally, I think it should have been the pick (if you had to have a custom in the list) instead of Kirkland's piece (sorry Kirkland).
And its just a paintjob on a 2007 toy sculpt and not really something new.

The Bemon writeup just seems to encourage newcomers to flip them for cash.

Most of it isn't even "kaiju" if we're getting super technical. "Japanese Vinyl" would be more appropriate but I guess it lacks that BUZZWORD quality.

Noted. I almost said the Super 7 Stomp (Which is one of my favorite figures in general, was the Hawaii paint 2008? That should of been in there)

Cure Boogieman? I would have gone with a Dempagon.

I love Cure Boogieman, sorry, I know that most of you think its a bit over designed.

The Kaiju Taro Lucky Cat? I guess if you're trying to make the list appeal to a broad range of readers.

yes and no. I think overall its a rad concept.

Not sold on the RxH Kiss set. If you wanted to feature RxH, I'd have gone with the Kamen Rider Evil.

Point taken.

One of the weaker Ojo Rojos in my opinion.

It was actually suppposed to be Ojo Rojos (ANY COLOR) just the figure in general not any specific colorway.

Strange how Paul Kaiju's Grodnoid is pictured but not really acknowledged.

They acknowledged it. We just REALLY liked that custom, again, matter of opinion, at least its not a horrible custom, there are ton of those!

The Bemon writeup just seems to encourage newcomers to flip them for cash.

Seriously, new comers? Half us cant even fucking get a bemon, how are the new comers gonna get one!?!? I want one!!

New comers, old comers are bidding huge to get one. I constantly see last minute celga bids at 500 or 600...and STILL get outbid. One sold for 1000. People set the bar and it keeps going higher. They aren't hard to get at all if you are willing to bid crazy. The bar was set early on and it went from there.

I think the point is that whenever someone writes..."this toy..xxxxx," is highly coveted and can be resold for 8x to 10x the amount of retail, people may see that and think...hmm maybe I'll buy one and flip it. I'm sure that people who know nothing about toys and don't collect them might read that article and try to search ebay and phillips de bury to get one.

I think the article reads differently if it said this toy is hard to get and I think it kicks ass. But by saying that this toy is awesome, sells for a lot and people are still willing to shell out tons of cash for it....it sort of encourages hype and new people might want to try to flip that. It happens with a lot of toys..From everything from usugrow to biskup.
