I've been rocking the original DS Heavy up until my mother confiscated it for Cooking Mama a couple months ago. I'm pretty excited to upgrade to the DSI and yeah I like the white one too. There's some on ebay around 230. |

I actually think that the DSi is a step back, but it just depends on what you are looking for. The DS Lite has a GBA slot so you can play both types of games. The DSi got rid of the GBA slot and now has an SD slot for multimedia. I have a huge backlog of GBA stuff, so i like having the option of only keeping 1 portable around. |

If you still play some old GBA games like Hitmaker/Treasure's AstroBoy (possibly one of the best AstroBoy games ever made), then I wouldn't buy the DSi. |

Not only Astro Boy, which is awesome, Rhythm Tengoku, and Mother 3 sometimes when i feel like being a masochist. There are tons of very solid GBA games, I'd still get a DS Lite. |

Hell-I still play Gameboy Color games on my SP. Tetris before bed nightly! Now i'm conflicted. I was excited since I intended to pick up a DS Lite (I have the 1st larger clunkier model, and found it awkward to hold and use for long periods of time without my hands getting sore). I never got a lite and then when I heard of the new DSi, I opted to just wait the few months for it. Now i'm not sure. I might just grab the lite now that the price is sure to drop, since I do still play a lot of GBA games. Or maybe I'll just be a brat and get both. |

The guy at GameStop was telling me it has one camera facing towards you, & another facing away... "Hey, what's that pic there?" "This one? It's a great shot of me taking a pic of something else." But for me, no GBA slot = no sale. I've got a camera on my computer, one on my cell, plus a digital camera and a mini digi-camcorder thing. If I need a pic of something, I'm set... |

I don't really think the cameras are so much for pictures, as for personalized game play. I'm assuming that there will be some games coming out that utilize the feature. like put your head on the character type stuff. which is funny. ha also early speculation said it would have 2 touch screens, which might have been cool, but the more I read, the more I fear I should have just upgraded to the lite 6 months ago! Longer battery life, backwards compatibility, and the plusses for the DSi are not that much better than the DS lite. damn. do you guys like how my hype thread has become a bash thread? haha |

the ads for this on the trains in tokyo are pretty cool. saying that, it has seemingly got bad reviews everywhere whereas the DSL got glowing reviews everywhere when it was released. i haven't played videogames seriously for years now though so i am kinda out of the loop. ps buy my DS games. |

DSi is 12% thinner since there's no GBA slot. The screens are 17% bigger. SD card slot, and it is suppose to have better audio. Also...shorter battery life. That's an even bigger negative than no GBA slot. DSi also has an internal memory of 256mb (only supports AAC format...not mp3). One nice feature...the power button also doubles as a soft reset to bring the player back to the main menu. Japan will have new colors coming next week...pink, lime green, and metallic blue. If I didn't have a GBA but have a DSL, would I buy the DSi? Nope. If I didn't have a GBA or DSL, would I buy the DSi? Nope. DSL is cheaper and there are cellphones with better cameras than the DSi. I'd give it a couple more years before I decide to let go of my DSL. While the DSi is more powerful, there is just no reason to get one right now....but that's just me. What do I know of the video game industry... I don't know where you read that the DSi is rumored to have 2 touch screens. I'm not sure how this can be a rumor since the DSi is already out. Maybe a rumor for the next version of DSi but there really hasn't been anything released on the next phase...so I'm really interested to know where this information is coming from. |

For those looking to import a japanese one I am pretty sure that the downloadable content (like wiiware or XBLA stuff) will not work here in the US. At least that is what kept me from gettting one when they came out in Japan. That being said the DSi is going to be a counterpart to the DSlite, the dsi will just be the higher priced and featured version of the two. I will be getting one and not being able to play GBA games doesnt bother me much, as I will still have another DSlite in the house somewheres im sure. Not having to power the unit down to go to the main menu or adjust the brightness is a big plus for me and the camera warping and audio warping features are gimmicky but seem interesting. |

Is the DSi region coded? palepoli wrote: Not having to power the unit down to go to the main menu or adjust the brightness is a big plus for me and the camera warping and audio warping features are gimmicky but seem interesting. 5 levels of brightness..DSL has 4 but I never really adjusted the brightness on mine. Oh...battery life is cut down to about half of the DSL's battery life. |

I am always adjusting mine just to get that last bit of energy life out of mine, I have gotten an extra few hours of play at the lowest setting when at the others the light is red. But im sure I will be doing that more than before with this. I wonder why the life is so bad, wifi or new screens I guess. |

palepoli wrote: gatchabert wrote: Is the DSi region coded? Not for DS games, just for the download service. That's what I thought. So it doesn't matter if you have a Japanese version DSi. It's like me downloading Japanese demos on my PS3. So...whatever downloadable content there is for the DSL will work for the DSi...no matter where you bought the unit. |

Personally the biggest feature for me is the downloadable content...there are already games and apps available in japan for the service...some are even free Examples: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/12/ ... -in-japan/ http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/02/20/ ... re-lineup/ And just to give a little more detail to the region lock theres also this news: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/ ... on-locked/ I'm not exactly sure how that works though. In terms of downloadable or internet play, they probably code in country specific servers to connect to, which effectively limits what games you can get. So if you were to get the Japanese DSi, you could probably download japanese games, and play online with japanese people, but you'd be out of luck if you wanted something in english or wanted to play a new DSi specific English game on the system. |
