I had a crush on smurfette when I was little.

everyone knows that she was the "queen bee". papa smurf got nasty with her and that's how the smurf village came to be.

I've also heard about smurfs having been drawn with a racist hand. all the smurfs are wearing white and papa smurf is wearing red--like the kkk.

you know, when i think about it, smurfette never acted as I thought girls should--she seemed like kind of an afterthought. I remember having this feeling that she was just "thrown in" to have a girl smurf.

I won't delve into the socio background of the smurfs,
but smurfette was made by Gargamel, she wasn't part of the original smurfs, she was made through his magic to capture the smurfs.

This reminds me of the Smurf discussion in Donnie Darko.

"Come on! They have one female servicing a large group of males. That implies a species that lays eggs."

"Oh my God, you’re crazy! They’re so obviously mammals!"

"Please! She’d be in estrus 24/7 if she didn’t lay eggs!"

"Smurfs don’t lay eggs! I won’t tell you this again! Papa Smurf has a fucking beard! They’re mammals!"

exactly.

obviously this brought the show towards a new philosophical definition of itself. with gargamel introducing sexual desire to a society previously void of any lascivious thoughts, it seems quite apparent that the Peyo corporation is re-casting Gargamel as the snake in the garden of eden. smurfette assimilates naturally into the group. it is important to note that by all accounts, she is a real smurf--not a facsimile, but the first female of a magically, all male species. she is not in disguise or an android, but more of an alchemical hommonculus divised by gargamel (whose talent for cloning should be considered as at least partly divine in nature).

whereas prior to smurfette you had episodes based on territorial colonization, destruction of native lands, and abduction of family members, the post-smurfette episodes now focus on the protection of the feminine commodity. she is a treasure to be adored and protected, but in truth she is an unnatural creation and can bring only misfortune to the peaceful smurfs. women, they are the death of all of us. even women. and smurfs.

when i was a kid, i had a really hard time with how there was never any mention of using the restroom on masters of the universe. i didnt need to see it, maybe just a 'sorry im late, i had to use the restroom' kind of a line once in awhile. i bugged my mom about it all the time.

I felt that way about that movie "Eagle Eye". the idea of a all-knowing, all-seeing computer that can control EVERYTHING and has the ability to understand and manipulate people based on the information it can gather about their personalities--OK.

but shia labeouf and the other chick don't take a crap the whole time?--I don't believe it. especially with all the scary stuff that happens to them.

A little off topic--sorry. I was just smurfing around.

Your first problem was shia labeouf was in it.
Now, smurf on.

Gargamel created Smurfette as bait, and she was brunette and not as her current incarnation. Papa Smurf gave her a makeover when she 'reformed".
The Smurfs were OK, but I couldn't stand the rip-offs that followed; Snorks, Trollkins, and the Wishniks.

I still collect Smurfs. My mom is Belgian and I'd get packages from my grandma when I was a kid. Once there was a bunch of small blue globs and she called them "Snuffs." The cartoon was OK, but I was already hooked before then. I also had a small hissy fit when the black smurfs were changed to purple so that no one would have a PC baby here in the States.

When were they black? I remember when the Smurfs got bit by that fly and it made them evil and purple. And they hopped around going G-nop, G-nop and biting each others tails.

Yep. They turned black and did the tail biting. When the show was done for the US they changed them to purple. However, the toys are still black since the only ones made were released in Europe.

Kubrick released Black Smurf, along with others, a few years ago.

Awesome. G-nop!
First time seeing the black ones. My Smurf experience was pretty much limited to the Saturday morning cartoon.
