All of this shit is for 12 year old girls as far as I'm concerned. (Aside from this board, that is). If I want to get in contact with someone, I'll call or email. If this keeps up, pretty soon we'll be a nation of pale, illiterate closet cases with huge thumbs. |

I'm on it but it's mainly for the cool links . . . I've only ever had 1 or 2 responses to direct questions. It all seems a little vague. |

Thank you. I don't fucking get it either. Everything I've heard about it makes it sound like the most self centered inane bullshit. We're raising a world full of dumb kids who just keep getting dumber. |

Meh. I find it alarming that people seem to value their privacy less and less these days, ( I know, I am showing my age). I don't need to know all the unimportant things a person is doing right now, i.e. sharpening a pencil, looking out the window etc etc. =P I guess the new trend is to celebrate the non-exciting and mundane aspects of one's life to total strangers. |

write what you want, read what you want, follow who you want. it's totally up to you to make it what you want....just like the board. you get out of it what you put in. |

I agree with Bert. Some stuff is totally unimportant. Some just for entertainment. Some posts have helped me out get the goods I have been looking for. I thought it would be stupid but its actually not that bad. |

also you'd be surprised what stores have twitter accounts. a lot of them leak upcoming info and sales via twitter. at this point twitter is what you make of it. |

I drank the kool-aid. Twitter may have started out as a social networking thingie, but it's morphing into a broadcast medium. It's like the wild west out there with all sorts of stuff going on and people scrambling to register screen names. You can have all the privacy that you want. If you want to broadcast your dull life, you can do that. But it seems to works best as a marketing tool or way to talk to customers. I've scored a couple deals by seeing announcements from S7 and others. I still hate myspace and facebook and have no interest in finding people from high school or "writing" on people's walls or other silly shit. But with Twitter, I can have it pull in headlines from a dozen news sites. I read updates from government officials. I can read stupid shit like ramblings from someone impersonating the dead Edgar Allen Poe. It's like a ticker tape of information streaming across the screen in real time. Then you start linking to others and it starts getting bigger and bigger. All of this reminds of when I tried to explain ebay to my mother. |

I use it in the same vein as liquidsky and others, to me, it's like a really small rss feed. I think the real value in twitter is for businesses. You can get updates on products before they hit websites, or get up to the minute information that can be consumed in 150 characters vs. having to wait for an entire news story to be typed up. |

I read on Gizmodo about a guy who rigged his chair to "Tweet" every time he farts. He has some gas sensor and other stuff that then registers with a computer and outputs "PFFFFT" That is what we have become.... |

legoomba wrote: I use it in the same vein as liquidsky and others, to me, it's like a really small rss feed. rss exactly. Though I would add that it can quickly become a huge rss feed is real time. But then they are developing tools and ways to sort that huge feed and find exactly what you want. In the future, I imagine that it will be the news source in real time. The plane that crashed in the Hudson river was first reported on Twitter. |
