We finally have all of the images up on the site from the exhibit. Been getting a lot of flack for the exhibit for obvious reasons, but all in all people have been really responsive to the work in a positive way.

If you're familiar with Patrick EVOKE you'll know that this is a new medium for him. Clearly one that stretches the limits of contemporary art. Make sure you read the mission statement to get a full understanding of the exhibit.

interesting lithograph-esque effects. so is that the actual makeup peeled up with tape? what's the word in thai for lady boy? katoy, katoi? something like that. very interesting subject matter as you can actually register yourself on gov't census as being a "lady boy". a few friends lived there for awhile and i've heard a bunch about them. apparently even if you don't tranny up but exclusively date trannies while dressed as a man then you too qualify for the same "title" of lady boy. interesting.

nice pieces that have a very warhol-ian pop appeal as most of the images are grey-ed out with spatterings of bright color around the eyes, lips, cheeks. the work is more interesting if you know the cultural background a little. it gets a stronger reaction if you do.

thanks for the comment, much appreciated. yes, it is the makeup (amongst other things) being lifted from each model's face and then reapplied onto a heavy board stock paper. clearly they are more impactful in person as you can really get into the imperfections and details of each one. they are definitely more haunting and almost surreal like. one critic mentioned they looked like faces coming up out of black water. i liked that.

the really cool thing about each model is that none of them are prostitutes. originally evoke thought he was going to have to delve there, but he was fortunate enough to avoid it and gather up 36 different models from all walks of life other than prostitution. anywhere from service industry jobs to office professionals. needless to say we still got shit from the narrow-minded. lol

anyway, thanks again for the comment. hoping to read more if any one is interested
