Just want to use more "block" style font instead of "script" font for my blog banner. Pardon my use of the words block and script as I'm no typographist. I don't even think that's a word.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by block font, but you will need to setup your keyboard to use Japanese. It looks like this: 怪獣クロニクル. After you have that setup, you can find a few font plugins depending on the program you're running (ps, word, etc). For Windows XP: Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Language tab Check "Install Files for East Asian Languages" (you may need your OS cd) Then click on Details Select Add, and scroll down the Input Language to Japanese, and Ok Click on Language Bar, and make sure "Show Language Bar on the Desktop" is checked Ok out of everything Go to whatever program you're using, click on the little "EN" icon now in your dock, and select JP. Then click on JP and choose "Show the language bar." Now you will have a much wider language bar, choose the input mode, and select hiragana. You will now type in hiragana, and hitting the space button will jump to the closest kanji or kattakana based on the context. For OSX: I don't want to restart in OSX right now, but if I remember correctly, it's pretty simple. Something like Apple>Settings>International and check Japanese. I may come back and edit this later if I have a chance. After you've done all this, you can search normal font packs for Japanese. Although, keep in mind that there are very few. With so many characters to consider (hiragana, kattakana, kanji), creating a font for Japanese is insanely time consuming. You might just want to type the banner in Illustrator, and edit the actual font vectors with brush tools or what not. Hope this helped. |
