I can't say that I am the biggest Wilco fan out there, but I am going to see them with a friend who is a huge fan this Saturday b/c I want to give them a chance to impress me. Anyone else going? This show is at the Fox Theatre |

Wilco is pretty good live but their strength is in recorded form if you ask me. I think yankee hotel foxtrot is one of my generations best albums and is in my top 10 best albums of all time. |

My friend said they aren't the most "live" band ever, but I'm hoping to get a better idea of their music overall by checking them out. Thanks for the well-wishes. I'll report back if anyone is interested |

Do that. I am crazy about them, live they are pretty good but werent mind blowing. My morning jacket on the other hand destroyed live. Literally my bones broke during the show because they were so poweful. Who would have thought? Too bad my stupid ex girlfriend made me leave before I could see the whole set. oof. |

Looks like Jonathan Wilson is opening so I haven't any idea what to expect. I'm making him go see Fever Ray with me in October so... |

I've seen them a couple dozen times and they always amaze me! |

My brother in law produced and directed a bunch of live DVDs (along with Brendan Canty) for Wilco and Jeff Tweedy. Ashes of American Flags, Sunken Treasure, all the Trixie stuff. I wasn't a fan until I got got comped at Merriweather Post Pavillion and live they are really good in this incarnation (plus that was prime seating). Nels Kline is one of the best guitar players I've seen live and I've seen some heavyweights. I kind of prefer them live to recorded, thats what won me over at least. |

Okay... Admittedly, I was taken aback. Wilco are definitely a live band. I was really impressed with the drummer and their keyboardist/percussionist/third guitarist, who apparently turned 40 yesterday. It was simply pleasurable seeing a band actually having a lot of fun playing together. The current lineup works very well. The live setting clearly gives them the room to really build on their jamming and cut loose. I feel Tweedy is the weakest link in the live setting. The whole Alt country thing is long gone. Though I did feel like I was watching Almost Famous, but in real life. I had no idea you could still find crocheted hip sweaters in 2009. Who knew!? Anyway, not knowing the bands material left me slightly out of place for obvious reasons. I enjoyed their "working with space" material the best. They played for almost two and a half hours... maybe more as we left after the second encore coz' our dogs had just given up. All in all I could see myself hitting up their gigs in the future. Was also a bonus b/c we ran into some friends we hadn't seen in literally ten years and it was fucking cool to see them. Oh, and Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was there too. He's shorter than I imagined. Hope this works for ya'll |
