I've made it 40 years in this life without ever messing up on the golden rule of microwaving. That being "NEVER EVER put anything metal in the microwave" That is until today. Let me explain....So I got this new fitted cap in the mail today. Despite being a medium it still was a 1/4 inch too big on my head. I quickly googled "how to shrink a fitted hat", went through the myriad of answers, and deduced that wetting the inside brim and blow drying it on high was the way to go. Everything was going fine, the hat was shrinking, but being an impatient person I decided to up it a notch and throw it in the microwave. This is where the problem began. Being a designer hat I failed to notice or realize that the brim is malleable simply because there is a metal wire through the front. Guess what happened next? Well After 20 seconds I smelled what appeared to be burning plastic. I quickly ran it to see my new hat on fire with smoke coming out of the microwave. I grabbed the burning hat and banged it on the counter putting out the flame. Scratch 35 bucks I though. Turns out the damage was minor and all under the brim. I had to take wire cutters and snap off the exposed wire on one end but you can't see it unless you look under the hat. I figure another 10 seconds and it would have been complete toast. |

Think of it as free distressing (no pun intended). |

Don't look up the "Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?" series on YouTube then. |

I spent way too many years of my life working in a new/used record store. I learned one day out of complete boredom that putting a CD in a microwave is not only a good idea, but has awesome effects.* *this is actually a terrible idea, so don't do it. but it's still awesome. ++ ++ it only takes a few seconds. |

Idiot's work is never done: ![]() ![]() I actually took wire cutters and got rid of the protruding skeletal remains on the brim. |

This is now the rare "distressed" version. Way more valuable. |

Good thing you took it off your head before microwaving |

To get the best fit, you need to microwave the hat while it's on your little head. |

But you should all try it anyways and see for yourselves! |
