So, a few weeks ago we started to put on a live painting event every Friday at the gallery. At least Fridays where we don't have other events planned or before a new exhibit opening. And so far it has been very well received. It is giving new artists a platform to show people, literally (and live) just what they are about artistically. Also, each week, the new artist is given the opportunity to collaborate with the previous artist on a 3' x 6' hand-stretched canvas. We're pitting fine against street. Oil versus acrylic. Painting versus collage and so on... Our goal is to not only have one artist appearing each week but a handful, all spontaneously creating art on the streets of Long Beach. Thus far we haven't completely decided what to do with all the finished work. Maybe auction it off for charity or donate it in some capacity. Our goal here is NOT to profit from this work, but to build a community here in Long Beach. A very MUCH needed art community.
