It's the most wonderful time of the year, it's Shark Week on The Discovery Channel!

I'm waiting for coconut week...more people are killed every year by coconuts falling on their heads than by shark attacks.
No but I'd watch shark week if I had cable tv.

You guys would have loved it in the UK a few years ago. When a new free channel(C5) started back then, all they had on were documentries about sharks and Nazi's. They got such a name for themselves, showing these kinds of doc's, they had to sort it.
So they went and bought everything CSI and we had to say goodbye to the sharks and Nazi's(sounds like a re-make of West Side Story).

Yeah, them thar coconuts are lethal. Someone got done by one in the Cook islands when we were there(they did'nt die though, phew).

I toggled between shark week and something else last night. Something else was better.. I think all the footage looks the same and they are kinda cruel to the sharks. They break teeth on those lines, cages, and other shit. Don't let me pee on your parade though, by all means, enjoy! Bon appetite.

in related news Dave Kinsey just came out with a nice print based on a piece he did for the Sea No Evil Art Show. It looks like all the artists participating donated works to benefit the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

I had no idea about Shark Fin soup until about a week or so ago. There's an older vietnamese guy that I work with and he offered me some of this soup for lunch one day and a co-worker told me it was Shark Fin soup...so I did some searching online and to hear about how the people that catch the sharks just cut the fins off and then let the shark sink to the bottom of the ocean to die...well that's just horrible. I don't really have a problem with some hunting but definitely have to finish the job.

Anyway, I want to buy the print but empty pockets + one piece still waiting for a frame prevent me from buying it.

you can see it here: http://www.kinseyvisual.com/photo.php?path=513.jpg&title=

That print is amazing! Oh, and yay Shark Week! However, my favorite shark pics are from the Planet Earth series that was on BBC. Best shark video ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-t2ayKadD0

Speaking of Shark Week.

Pulled out this oz vinyl gem the other day for a listen.

Ron & Val Taylor's 'Inner Space' by Sven Libaek
(Soundtrack to a series of 13 underwater films made in 1972 and 1973)

The songs 'Shark Attack Theme' and 'Open Sea Theme' were featured in the Wes Anderson movie 'The Life Aquatic'.

Ron & Val Taylor are prominent Australian shark and underwater experts.
The Taylors are credited with being pioneers in several areas - the first people to film a great white shark
without the protection of a cage and the first to film sharks by night.

A few interesting achievements in their diving careers are:
1974: The Taylors, assisted by Rodney Fox above water, filmed the short live shark underwater sequences for Jaws.
1979: Some very famous footage exists of Valerie testing a chain mail suit with attacking sharks.
She only wore the suit as it was found to be too small for Ron.

Yeah, the Planet Earth series was great.

Another program has been put together since then revealing that Great Whites not only breach off South Africa (where it's most common), but off Australia and California as well. They swim straight up from underneath their prey at up to 25mph! These animals can weigh over 2 tons. That's like getting hit by a car...a car with giant teeth!

Waiting for stingray week seein' I got hit by one a few weeks ago. Just a little fucker too. Felt like someone stabbed me in the foot with a 3" nail and then for the next 4 hours hit me in the foot with a sledgehammer every 3-5 seconds. And, no I didn't pee on it (no one else did either) though my daughter thought it would be funny...
