I know this has been discussed before & there have been varied opinions. But now that vinyl tragedy has touched my life (a horn cleanly broke off a shelf diving figure), I need to ask, which is best for soft j-vinyl, zap-a-gap or super glue? Any updated experiences? |

I would not use Super-Glue. It will harden the soft vinyl and whiten it. The soft-vinyl could melt too during application if you use too much of it. After drying it will become harder than originally and may brittle. I am not familiar with Zap-a-Gap as it is not really distributed in France (or under another name maybe), but it seems really close to the Super-Glue... But maybe Plasti-Zap would be better : http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-glues/plasti-zap Maybe you should wait for other advices on this project if you plan on using it on a valuable toy... Zap-a-gap all the way. I depend on it! Best glue ever made. There are three viscosities. Use the green label. the pink label is very thin and watery and the yellow label is very thick and gooey.The green is in between. Unless you intend to paint, stay away from the accelarator. It yellows the glue but does set it pretty fast. |

Yesterday I went to Ultrecht & got the green label Zap-a-Gap (since I had read nothing bad about it in my searches -figured it was the safest bet). Worked like a charm! No weirdness or discoloration. You have to know where the break occured & look really hard in the right light to see any hint of the break. |

I used gorilla epoxy to repair a skull bees hand I gave to my little brother, the thumb broke off really sloppily, more like torn off than a clean break. I did it two years ago, it was on white vinyl and it has never discolored and you couldn't even tell its repaired to this day, even though I fixed it I can't even tell where I did it. It bonds instantly and sets in five minutes and when it does its solvent resistant, flexible and paintable. And it fills in gaps too, I just used a cotton swab to clean up the excess. It flexes better than the vinyl too, not stiff or brittle at all. |
