Tank Man, or the Unknown Rebel, is the nickname of an anonymous man who achieved widespread international recognition as a heroic figure when he was videotaped and photographed during the protests at Beijing's Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989. Several photographs were taken of the man, who stood in front of a column of Chinese Type 59 tanks. |

My best friend has a framed version of this hanging in his office and tells everyone who sees it that the man in the photo is his one and only hero. The video is something to see. he just walks up out of nowhere and stands in front of the column of moving tanks. When the lead tank moves to one side to get around him he moves with it, then back the other way with him side stepping to position himself in front of the tank again. Pretty stunning to watch. |
