That just seems like an incredible waste of time since it's just going to crumble. Still very cool!

I am with living dead. That guy should draw, or sculpt, or paint. But all that work for something temporary? What is the story? Probably French or something cool like that....

Seems he's just a regular American idiot.

Totally mindblowing. The textures' intricacy is unbelievable - the horns, the wrinkles, the fucking PORES...

Ha, I was going to pm you this thread to take a look for it's right up your alley. Looks like you beat me to it.

This is amazing! So much detail. But yeah, what a waste as it's only temporary.

Maybe he subscribes to the same value system as the Tibetan sand paintings. From Wiki; "This is done as a teaching tool and metaphor for the 'impermanence' (Pali: anicca) of all contingent and compounded phenomena (Sanskrit: Pratītya-samutpāda)."

Is there a link to story I'm missing? All I see is picture in the post.

Judging by the setup in the first few photos, it looks like this was basically solid by the time he started sculpting. So maybe it was akin to sculpting out of sandstone...?

Regardless, that is just a killer sculpt. I love the wings as the final touch. And something about the temporary nature of it makes it even cooler for me.

I've done some 'digging' and found some more info –

The photos are from an event in Venice featuring 18 artists illustrating Dante's Inferno

A guy I work with is a sand sculptor. He was on the tv show Sand Blasters and his team came up with the idea of putting "projectiles" in their sculptures so that if theirs got blown up it might take out some of the competitors as well.

That's impressive. This must be some sort of promotion. The tent kind of gives it away.

Totally awesome. I think the fact that its using sand makes it even better given that it'll disappear with the wind.
Nice find Ian.
