My favorite comment:

Um, dude, YOU ARE NOT a customer of Facebook. Their customers are advertisers.

You are the PRODUCT.

My biggest complaint with Facebook is that it will not let me list my hometown as HELL. C'mon!

They're out of luck. I'm sure some people would make the argument that they are already out of luck, seeing as how they live in Hell, Michigan, but I'm not going to say that. The line from the Wiki entry that says it all-"Hell's main export is kitsch."

Facebook tracks everywhere you go on the internet even when you leave their site!!! Facebook just changed their privacy standards AGAIN! and now you have to specifically mark private or it defaults to sharing everything to the WWW. F' facebook and Google.

Google got bad press yesterday for remarks CEO Eric Schmidt made to CNBC, he said he didn't give a damn about YOUR privacy and everyone should just shut up and enjoy the PATRIOT ACT SURVEILLANCE programs.

Don't take the mark of the Beast!

I keep on shouting into the coffee can with the string and nobody responds. Maybe I need a new string?

Also, this 1973 art video explains it all.

Hah! But seriously, I like the fact that "mom & pop" enclaves like this still exist online.

I was beginning to think I was the only person not on Facebook, all my friends are like you have to join, you can find all these people you used to go to highschool/hang out with/etc. If I wanted to talk to them I would have kept in contact with them. I'm convinced that Facebook is for people who cannot let go of the past, and need to go on the Maury Povich show or some shit, on one of those "Look at me now" episodes...

Exactly.

I value my privacy and I have better things to do than send people virtual gifts on facebook or scribble on someone's wall or collect 346 "friends"...

i have facebook,
but i mostly talk to the same 3 or 4 people on there that i talk to in real life.
that, and playing some of those shatty zingya games or whatever.

i think it's funny how all these people think your buds now, regardless of your status prior, just because they found you on facebook and you were in school together or from the same city or neighborhood or whatever.

it's like when you run into that guy you work with at the store or the bar or something and he suddenly acts like the 2 of you are best buds for life, but when at work you don't even recognize each others existence. ever.

In all honesty, I have to thank Facebook for existing. Thanks to Facebook I've been able to get back in touch with old school friends and ignore friend requests from people who fall into that "You were friends of friend of me in H.S., why 20+ years later do you think I want updates on your kid?" category. Seriously. Also, with the 2008 election I finally got to see which of my past "friends" from high school are simply racists. Not folks who were against Obama per se; but folks who just pushed the edge of the "What the eff di you just say?" envelope where I can safely say "Good think I avoided them..."

And since this sounds all dour, I did hear back from a great JHS teacher who caught my name someplace and looked me up.

Facebook simply existing is like a social secretary for us normal folk.
