i havent noticed anything missing, and itd have been tough for someone to get in through that hole withought taking down more glass. i moved the couch so if it all fell it wouldnt cover the couch. which is what the imprint is from. didnt see any rocks or bullet holes, and there isnt anything in my apt by the window that could do this. i really hope the complex doesnt try to have us pay for it or ill need to get a lawyer. thats gotta be an expensive window. |

yeah thankfully nothing was gone. im just freaking out hoping they dont try to get us to pay for this. i cant imagine how much this window must cost. im just confused id expect if it were a bird we'd see a dead one. that'd hafto be a hell of a hit id think. im clueless though. btw i wish that farm were my backyard haha. |

That sucks , SK. I really don't think the complex will charge you. I have a friend who had supposedly shatter-proof storm windows installed in his home. One day, he hit a pebble while mowing and it shattered a huge pane into tiny shards. I'm wondering if in your case, it was ice , propelled by wind? Still sucks, but its better than thinking someone broke in. |

Glass is funny stuff... could have been brittle in one spot. Last time my car was at the mechanic's, my back window caved in for apparently no reason while sitting on the lift overnight. |

That's what they told you, huh? @SK- The funny part about the breakage is that there seems to be more glass outside the frame than inside. Also, the broken glass inside the apartment is very close to the door (assuming you didn't sweep it up before the photo). So it seems like there must have been a minor impact from the outside- maybe not even enough for the object to go through the window- then the glass cracked and fell straight down (evenly distributing itself on both sides of the frame). Sorry to hear about this... unexpected repairs are the worst. |

Well they replaced the window, of course. I have seen glass shatter without impact or any noticable vibration, it does happen.

Happens very often with tempered glass. Tempered glass is funny. Sometimes you can take a hammer to it and it will not break but slight temperature change can cause it to shatter. It happened to my front glass door. I've also seen it happen more often on shower doors. meanmistert wrote: Well they replaced the window, of course. Especially if you notice large cracks in the foundation where a large shift can occur with expansion and contraction through change in the seasons. Definitely something the landlords should fix. |

well they asked if i filed a police report today and i said "no i contacted you" and they said i should so they have a case # to justify the repair. so i did. at this point if they try to make me pay theyr indicating they think i lied on a police report so theyv got a bigger issue on their hands. im sure at this point its covered. i did hafto argue that they needed to put plywood over it instead of just the tarp thats there. they tried to say they dont make wood that big... then said they were coming to measure for the replacement tomorrow after i was told theyd be replacing tomorrow. so i told them they better get wood up because its supposed to rain, so they did. still may be a week before i get a window |

That sucks. I hate glass. I've got many scars to show why. Good luck with the repairs. |
