Maybe one of the "ronery" guys bought it?
Definitely a step up from a pillow: super creepy lifelike appearance, plus heads will roll when you tell people how much you paid for it...
It's still freakishly awesome. The amount of man... er, woman-hours put into creating this has to be phenomenal.

Wow. That price is out of this world (but not unbelievable if you check out her blog and see what crowd she is in). The other works on her website are just fantastic, and show both an astounding technical skill as well as an amazing artistic eye. Obviously they are not for everyone, but for the people who are interested in such things, these must be at the top of the pile.

Fuck kaiju. I'm learning how to make dolls.
I wonder how long it takes to construct a doll like that.

On the blog it talks about that specific doll a fair bit. One of the 3 wigs took 48hrs to complete! Amazing stuff I must say.

I'm not sure I can say much on this, and I understand being into something and paying a lot. But $40,000.00 could, ya know, help feed a needy kid. Or pay for some childs medical bills. Or, well, you see where I'm going. This makes me a little sad and sick at once, but I know I can't really judge, it's just my gut reaction.

wow. I envied that guy just before he spent $40,000.

for all we know, the guy/gal gives plenty to charities and what not, right? but damn, that's still $40,000 in "play" money. youch.

The money we all spend on crap could go for the same causes. We don't usually spend it all in one lump sum, but added up, it could do a lot of good.

Post subject:  Re: and how's that for an ending bid...

Yeah, I know, but this is different SLIGHTLY in the sense that it was able to be dropped in ONE LUMP SUM. I mean, that's so general to say "we can all do this if we don't buy stuff" that's applicable to anything. CD's, clothes (outside of very basic needs) even food beyond the bare minimum.

It's one thing to spend that type of money spread out over a long time on needless stuff, but to just drop it like that on one big, useless thing?! Like it's nothing? It strikes a slightly different chord with me.

Again, I totally know what I said and how it came off and I am very much against any one telling anyone else how to spend their money. I'm not doing that. I'm just taken back a bit by it all especially when I think of where 40 large could have gone otherwise and not just in selfish, material purchases.

I mean the buyer might give huge sums of cash to charity too, I'm guessing someone with that type of cash does if not just for tax reasons. Just putting my thoughts on the subject, not judging totally or saying anything with major conviction. It does make me a little sad in one sense, but it's not my life and money either.

I gotta say, despite the fact that it's a nude doll, I'm in love with the craftsmanship.
