I would have loved to have come up with that scam myself. 15% of total is a fuckin' genius way to stay in cash forever. Plus, he can potentially sue to keep it in rotation. Owners should charge admission to see the damn thing just to stay above boards. |

I honestly couldn't get a handle on how I felt about this as I read through the ebay listing. Now I find myself wanting to tell people about it to see how they react. I don't know who the artist is and don't have the time to look him up right now, but I find the 12 outstanding bids fascinating. Is he well known? I kinda hope to see this thing still posting itself for sale 10 years from now and I wonder how many times it will have been sold by then. What would that say about art and commerce? I often say that I don't care for conceptual art, but every now and then I come across something that catches my imagination. I suppose, though, that I will only find this thing interesting as long as it continues to change hands. I sure would like to know the thoughts and motivations of the bidders/buyers. |

I am confused, if it sells itself, why is CMLarsen the seller of it and not the box itself? hahahaha. WTF is going on here! This is trying to coin in on irony a bit too much for me. What's next, a machine that makes hotcake style pancakes? Get it, a machine that sells "like" hot cakes. |

http://www.caleblarsen.com/ He is really pushing it with concepts like the one listed above. He has another piece called $10,000 sculputre (in progress) that just accepts dollar bills and then there is a contract with the contributor. Seems like he's a legitimate artist who is challenging the notion of art itself. This one really has my mind working. Not sure what I think, but it has the gears spinning. |
