Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places to look for artwork. I just moved and the living room has a few big empty walls that need somethings on them.

Keep in mind I have Pushead / Biskup / Soto / Lamm...etc prints around the rest of the house so I want to get non Monster, non skull pieces.

I'm thinking Z Gallery, for lack of better option, kind of pieces. But I'd rather support more starving, or non starving, artist types. I just don't know where to look.

I'd suggest hitting up local galleries or looking around artists.gawker.com or deviantart.com

It's always to support local galleries. At first I thought your location was desmoines so I was going to recommend http://www.instinctgallery.com/. But Deimos doh.
We got a Deth P Sun print I really like http://www.dethpsun.com/, also got a Sesow who is a pretty awesome DC artist, http://www.sesow.com/. Lots of little prints at http://www.tinyshowcase.com/. There's so much out there. When you see an artist you like just search, so many of them sell directly these days.

I live in the bay area. There are no galleries around here.

Actually, this is the closest one to me:

One of these days I could make a trip up to SF. I was just wondering if anyone could point me to anything online.

Remembering Fecal Face as I type this. Maybe I should poke around there and use their gallery guide.

gallery nineteen ninety eight has great prints and great artists. however, if you are looking for something more unique you can get an original for the same $150 per print price tag by using deviant art or just going to local art shows etc. SF has tons of little art galleries with young artists. I like young artists' works because if they're up and comers you're in there from the start of their success. If they quit making art, you've got something that's unique due to its irreplaceability and rarity. in the end, get what pleases the eye and makes the room look best.

Just checked out the Gigposters classifieds . . . there's some real nice screenprinted work in there!

My flavour for production toys over HP and custom toys extends to art too. I'd rather have a low run screenprint than an original . . . I think I may be wired wrong, but the fact it's been through a production process makes it more appealing! :?

That is some scary sheet. Actually makes LeRoy Nieman look good.

Bert's suggestion is a good one. Other galleries at that level in SF include White Walls and of course Fifty24.

If your pockets are deep enough be sure to check out Catherine Clark Gallery, probably the most radical in the Bay Area. I also like Rena Bransten.

I enjoy scrounging the fleas and yard sales for lesser known finds which I can then enjoy researching. With the gallery scene you're really just paying for name recognition, and then your kids end up selling it to someone like me a few decades later for twenty bucks.
