Remakes of movies is one thing, but can you please tell me who how they can remake the Karate kid, but now movie the plot to china, teach the kid KUNG FU and STILL call it Karate kid ??

WTF ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Karate ... 10_film%29

"Unlike the original 1984 movie, The Karate Kid, the 2010 remake does not feature the modern interpretation of karate, which is from Okinawa. Despite its title, the new film focuses on a boy learning kung fu in China."

Jackie Chan. If it weren't for the title, I'd have no problems.
Now where's the damn 3 Ninjas remake.

I agree...but I think if they didn't name it Karate Kid, people would just say that it's a rip of Karate Kid.

They should have at least called it ummmmm KU FU kid. That and the part of a 12 year old with a love interest is creepy. They should have keep the kids age around Daniels age. I mean its a coming of age story ( first love, first car, first time kicking someones ass) . But with Will Smith Producing it he had to cast his kid and fit the story around that.

I remember seeing the trailer and having the same thoughts "kung fu! it's kung fu!"

but maybe this will lauch a franchise of films where it's not just karate--but kung fu, and/or a bunch of other fighting styles.

or not.

I'm excited and don't give a shit if they called it Citizen Kane the Quickening. I'd see Jackie Chan if he starred in a dinner theater version of The Wiz.

That hilarious, but I'm guilty of seeing terrible movies just for Jackie Chan.

They could have cast a shittier kid actor as well. Little Smith aint half bad. But really, Hollywood sometimes forgets kung fu and karate are completely different, that is the worst part about this flick.

I just watched the preview.....I'm speechless. This movie looks terrible. Thank you for ruining an awesome movie and series.

I don't mean to threadjack but this isn't completely off topic. Have any of you seen the new Death At A Funeral remake trailer? The movie is almost identical but with just a change in cast (now all black) and consequently some of the jokes. The first one was great, and admittedly the new cast seems effective but how does this get greenlit? I just don't understand Hollywood sometimes

Hahaha I've been following this movie for quite a while now I didn't know anyone would be interested or I would've posted it before.

But, it was Originally called The Karate Kid but they later changed it to Kung Fu Kid, and it wasn't till recently that they changed it back to Karate Kid.

But it was since about a year ago when I heard about it and the actors they got for them and I said its gonna be horrible but I had to follow it to see the disaster. Just like passing by a car accident.

The thing that really gets to me is that "Wax on, Wax off" is now "Jacket on, Jacket off".

Gah! The only thing that took my mind off of this is that I heard they want to cast John Krasinski as Captain America. But hey, why not Hollywood? If Seth Rogen can be the Green Hornet and you can remake Death at a Funeral with all black comics but keep the same midget (little person for you sticklers) then why not ruin every movie imaginable? Why not Casablanca or Soylent Green?

 I spoke too soon and saw that there is a Remake to Soylent Green coming 2012. What a sad world, no more originality. :(

the og Karate Kid movie was for kids, we saw it as kids...this is for kids as well, and it would look pretty fucking dumb if we started a thread about every kids movie and shat on it, eh? This doesn't even look that bad, and I DON'T like Jackie Chan, please for give me.

when Hollywood remakes the Godfather or Taxi Driver and has a kid delivering stupid lines, then start a hate thread.

it has to be tough being the only black kid in china (every joke about this joke of a movie I can think of is makin me think of white man's burden)

Finally! A sane response. The Karate Kid is a part of the popular culture that I grew up with, so it holds a bit of nostalgia for me, but it's no sacred cow. I thought it was a pretty stupid movie the first time I saw it.

That being said, this remake looks to have the potential to be even more ridiculous. Jackie Chan is usually fun to watch, though.
