Do we have a dessert thread? I searched could not find a specific thread encompassing all desserts?

Anyhow I have to share this:

Flashback to my youth growing up in New Jersey!!!! So my favorite dessert from the time I was a kid through my 20's was Entenmanns Chocolate Chip Crumb Cake (filled with Mocha cream). They don't make it anymore, and I've not had it in about 6-8 years but I can still taste it inside my head. So I'm off trudging through the snow listening to Daniel Johnston on my ipod to get milk and low an behold as I walk in Wilson Farms here in Buffalo: THEY JUST MADE A NEW VERSION OF IT!!! No crumbs but it tastes just like what I remembered! Thank you Entenmanns. In FACT I emailed them two years ago asking why I could not get the cake up here in Buffalo. Since Entenmanns is based in NJ that would probably explain why it was easy for me to get as a kid. They told me it's not available up here and sent me some coupons for my trouble. Maybe they listened to me? My mind is just going to let me believe they did. Big up me:

This cake is a mouth orgasm! Fluffly light yellow cake with mini chocolate chips in it, light chocolate mocha icing (think wedding cake icing with a mocha flavor) with a sprinkle of more chocolate chips and powdered sugar. It melts in your mouth.

When I worked in downtown l.a. with my friend/head pastry chef when they 1st opened, we made this stuff:
strawberry pop tarts & smores cake that gets torched on top.

Entenmann’s is a regional bakery. In the NYC/NJ area they are pretty well known. Their Wikipedia page elaborates on the elaborate ownership changes, but right now they are a sub-brand owned and manufactured by Mexican bread mega-power Bimbo.

So that probably explains why distribution has improved. Bimbo owns practically every major brand in the U.S. as far as baked goods go--and the connected distribution channels--so it makes sense that places that never heard of it before are slowly getting it.

When I was a kid, Drake's Yodels were the only thing I went nuts for snackwise. Later on it was Prince Polo wafer/chocolate bars from Poland. I still like the Prince Polo stuff since it’s still made with real sugar and you can find them in 99 cent shops in Greenpoint at 3 for a dollar. Excellent deal!

But nowadays I try to avoid high-fructose corn syrup and fake chocolate like crazy so I don’t buy store stuff like that. So I like to score stuff like chocolates from Tumbador, a very local Brooklyn chocolate maker. They are not cheap, but the stuff is amazing and the quality is top notch. My fave stuff is there “Lil Devils” which are basically gourmet Ding Dongs. And their Pecan Pie Caramels which are the only snacks I have eaten in years that made me literally stop what I was doing and say “Holy crap is that good!”

I also like Sunspire candy bars. Especially their plain Coconut bar which is basically a Mounds bar made with really, really good ingredients.

There is also this pie shop in Brooklyn called Four and Twenty Blackbirds. I discovered them before they had a formal shop (yeah, I'm a snack punk) and they had a table setup at a local art show. Amazingly good baked goods. Now they have a shop in Brooklyn and they serve/sell slices and whole pies. Their holiday pies spark huge lines and sellout like crazy.
