So is anyone keeping track of the possibility of nuclear fallout reaching the west coast of the us? |

Avidly. ![]() No, but seriously, people seem to be falling into two camps: Those that think this is a Chernobyl-scale disaster, and those who say it's a completely different scenario - different type of reactor, different event etc. Most (tho not all) scientists seem to be falling into the latter camp, saying that if any radiation even reaches Tokyo it will have decayed to a very low level, in which case you should be fine. I hope they're right. If they're wrong ... Well, after Chernobyl, radioactivity was detected on sheep in Scotland, but again it was very small amounts. So don't worry. Not being an apologist at all. Everything the anti-nuclear lobby ever said is coming true here. The people of Tokai must be feeling very, very angry. |

The news here in LA is reporting that the first radioactive plume will arrive tomorrow. Sounds ominous but it shouldn't be packing much of a punch. Not much more than the usual everday radiation dosages we receive from things like the sun. |

News here in SF says if you have granite counter tops, you get more radiation from them than what might be coming. I'm more worried about quakes than radiation at this point. |

This is a good read. http://www.boingboing.net/2011/03/17/scientist-who-studie.html This guy seems to think the best possibly option would be for the winds to be blowing westward, over the Pacific, if it all goes tits up. No mention of it making it to the US, it should dissipate over the ocean. |

Everybody's lookin' forward to the world's end! Radiation, Radiation (Yeah!) Radiation, Radiation (Yeah!) We we we contaminated ...

There are trace amounts of radioactivity showing up in milk in Washington state and the media has been all over this. Evidently, though, there is more radioactivity in one banana than in a gallon of the 'tainted' milk (potasium is radioactive). I am not slighting what is going on in Japan - that is truly scary. I just wish everyone would focus on Japan and not on some uninformed perceived threat to themselves. |

Good point Biff. Can you maybe make it a RAP? : "Radiation in milk across the nation And the media's all over it. But there's more neutrons in one banana Than in a gallon of that shit. I ain't dissin' ma homies in J.A. What's happenin' there is truly scary. I just wish everyone would focus on that And not on some uninformed crap." Hm... Last bit was difficult. But I think we might have a HIT RECORD! |

radiation must be seeping into everything in japan like a total slow burn. in 20 years the current run of real head, secret base, whatever will be setting off the geiger counters... |
