Two episodes in and I'm on board. Anybody else?

Have you read the books? When I started reading the series I wasn't aware that the last books were still being written...been waitng for the last book (which is now going to be two books!) for a while now. I wish I had waited so that I could have read the entire series without any lag-time between books.
I'm looking forward to watching the mini-series whenever it's available on Netflix.

Digging in to the first book today. My girlfriend's read them all and she was really looking forward to the show. She says that, so far, the show isn't deviating too much.

Game of Thrones is my new favorite show. Waaay better than that schlock Camelot.

Them Lannisters are freaky evil...

The second episode was maybe even better. Incest, murder, treachery, pet wolves. HBO is totally back. I avoided the books in order to preserve an open mind for the series, but I'll probably jump in after this season's over.

Are they doing the entire Song of Ice and Fire series, or just a Game of Thrones?

Game of Thrones. Each chapter seems to be an episode so far. True to the book. Loving it but something does seem a bit dull, I think it stems from the editing. I hope the show lasts because I know it gets darker, more insane, and far more exciting.

Reread the above. I imagine the idea is to do the full series. I heard hbo dunk 40mil into the project.

I like it.

Anyone read City of Thieves? I've heard good shit about it, and it's written by Benihoff the screenwriter for the series.

So who among you have been keeping up? With the spring shows pretty much over, this is the main show I follow every week. It's gotten really really good and it's been hard not to jump into the books and read ahead. I'm still not 100% up on the names, but this is helping.

What's fascinating to me is that there are hints about magic, supernatural creatures, and of course the dragons, but none of those elements have had any screen time yet, except maybe right at the beginning of the first episode. Everything so far has just been very human-oriented and basically middle-ages. However, it seems like the crazy stuff is looming just ahead. I haven't read the books, but it looks like they've done a good job laying a foundation of relationships before the crazy starts to stress those relationships even more.

SPOILER-ish content below. Nothing specific though...

I haven't seen the show, but I've read all the books that are currently available. And it doesn't really get all that fantasy-y. There are elements as you noted, but they're fairly minimal. The books really are character-driven, with just a bit of "magic & dragons" on the periphery. And that, to me, is a good thing - there's so much going on amongst the various characters! It definitely gets crazy, but magic isn't needed to get things stirred up.

I just finished the book yesterday. But I don't have HBO, so I'm waiting till netflix eats it before I catch the show.
I highly recommend the book to anyone who reads. lover of fantasy or not.

and you might be waiting a while on the magic/dragons/supernatural... there are hints throughout the first book, but it's primarily power games and backstabbing.

I'm so glad I haven't read the books. I'm in total shock!
If I didn't know it already this episode convinced me that ANYTHING can happen on the show.

It's going to be hard waiting for new episodes. I am not sure if I should read the books now or not, as I kind of want to avoid spoilers for the coming season. That is seeming a long ways off though....
