Sorry to hear that Tony! Its tough times for everyone. My parents were both unemployed for about a year and a half and just recently started working again. Just make the best of your time while you're unemployed, but I do hope that you find a job as soon as possible! Hang in there man!! |

Honestly I'm not surprised. The job prospects on Hoth never seemed too solid, especially since the Empire landed and all the Wampa's started getting sliced up. |

Take a breather, sleep on your emotions and hug everybody that lets you. Reach out to friends and your support network and start telling everybody you're available. |

Sometimes it could be the best day of your life. I know a couple friends of mine were definitely looking forward to the day they got laid-off. One of them finally got laid off a few months ago and is going on a trip to India for 3 weeks. Another is still in hell...waiting for that day when they walk up to him and tell him he's been laid off. I've taken jobs where the contract is only good for 1 year and then I take the time off to travel. Some people go back to school. Me...if I don't travel, I draw and paint. Go on unemployment if you can, take a few weeks off and regroup. There's always a better job out there. |

I know it's hard, but I would do as Bert suggests. Take some time off and travel. The last couple of times I was too worried about finding a new job that I didn't stop to take a breather. I really wish I had. |

Bert & Kirkland know what they're talking about - stick with them! It doesn't have to be the worst day ever, unless you reveal that you are selling toys and prints. I'm never a fan of selling beloved items because of quick cash. Selling things that are easily replaced at a later time (like a PS3 + games) is a much better way of selling something that's easily replaceable later - when compared to selling off something that is a collection you've worked for. Don't do it, you'll regret it. BTW, I'm still 110% going to try and score for you next month. Keep your chin up, or else! |

Actually sometimes losing your job can be the best thing that happens to you. It always seems like the shittiest thing at first, because losing your source of income can be paralyzing. Just scale yourself back, no need to panic. Take time to focus on what you really want out of life/career. Don't go selling off everything because of the fear of unknown. Use the time wisely and pretty soon you'll be saying to yourself: "So glad I'm not at that job anymore!" |

If it makes you feel any better my car was robbed last night and they took everything.... Isn't New Haven great ?! But hang in there, and try to relax, usually everything works out. The time I was laid off for 10 months was the BEST year of my life. Collect and try to regroup. As long as you can afford the stuff you need to survive you will be okay. It's really amazing how you will be able to adapt. |

you all are the best. this is awesome advice and is def noted! ive had some time to breathe and think. this shouldnt be too bad. i have already reached out to some former co workers and theyre going to try to hook me up. by a small miracle, (just found out) im possibly going to babysit my wife's-co worker's-baby boy. im going to hang out tomm with mommy and baby and see how it goes. i love kids and have nieces and nephews that are young. this opp would bring me 200.00 per week, thankfully. @ Crab, if anything, id begin selling my drum n bass import cd collection first, over toys and prints. there again, my emotions a few hours ago were winning the good fight. ill get those pics of our framed prints to you asap too. @ Bert + Kirkland, some time off would be nice. we're heading back to the outer banks in late june before summer semester starts. i have that to look fwd to at least. i made that company millions, worked 9 years, and only got 2 weeks of severance. i am in school with only 2 pre-reqs left to apply for admission into the radiography program. im hoping i can maybe go full time and get this done. we'll see what happens in that arena. i have to pass alg 2 (alg 1 was barely digestible, im one of those math ignorants that walk the earth. @ rich.. sorry to hear that man. thats horrible. i hope insurance strokes a nice check for you at least. love you all and thank you again. |

I got laid off recently. I was never so excited/worried. Stay by your friends/family and DONT sell the pus. You'll regret it. I normally dont say this because I feel the term has been beat to death....but keep that PMA. |

Sorry to hear about this. And others have said this. But there is work. And there is life. Ive gone through work craziness, life craziness and major family issues; death/abuse/etc. Work is really only important in my opinion because you need money to live in this world. But unless you are eating bars of gold every day, you can find ways to balance financial/personal needs. No idea what your finances are, but if I were in your situation I would see it as a definite opportunity.... BUT I would also sit down and set realistic goals. Such as setting a time-frame for you to not worry about work, setting a very basic budget you can live in and setting some day-to-day “things to do” so you don’t go nuts. If you can do it, then I would highly recommend taking a vacation or doing something you have never done but wanted to do. But at the end of the day, work is work. And the vast majority of us just work for money. So it’s always better to approach work as just being a source for money and anything else—works friends, work social-perks, etc...—as ancillary. As much as I like people I work with and like the perks I have, the second the money goes away I am gone. And if my work friends stop keeping in touch? Whatever. That just means they were never real friends. And ditto if work stresses you to the point you just can’t have a life; if that is ever the case you need to reconsider your job. Also, not for nothing but $200 a week for playing with kids is an absolutely EXCELLENT part-time gig. They like you, you like them and you get paid. |

Man sorry to hear about the bad news. I hope for a quick new opportunity and an untouched Pus collection. I will echo what others have said. Sometimes the things that seem the worst turn out to be the best catalysts for a better life. |

Sending good vibes your way... try to stay positive and count your blessings. Don't sell your best, most cherished stuff. I hope this is more of a blessing in disguise and things turn around for you. Good luck with the radiology program too! -g |

c77 wrote: took me year of freelancing before I got a full time job again so stick in Yeah, my girlfriend got laid off last February and freelanced shortly after that until pegging another job last month. Initially it was the end of her world, but ever since having to go back to work she's really missed the freelancing. The fact that our dogs were the only "coworkers" in her daily environment, going to yoga pretty much daily, and never needing to go out and grab a fast food lunch was super spoiling - even if she never thought it would be from the get-go. Worst part of a lay-off for me would be the free time - I go stir crazy with consecutive days off work.. I'm just so used to 55-65hr weeks (or at least 6-7 day work weeks) for years now that I have a hard time fully enjoying time off |
