The front page of the bbc news site say "RIP Camden's Finest" which I think says enough about Camden for me not to ever have to tell people not to go there, ever again.

For those that don't know, Camden is a giant twat magnet of an area, kind of like an entire town sized Hot Topic full of pick pockets, drunks, and tourists who stand in the middle of the road blocking you from getting out of Camden.

Anyway, I saw her a few weeks ago, and she looked about as grim as they come, nodding off and twitchy. She was a pretty sad sight.
Surprised that she's out lived Doherty, but I guess he's not in the limelight any more so has less of a reason to cork it.

I feel it's such a waste of talent. I really enjoyed her music and am sad that there won't be anymore. The worst part is that it was self-inflicted. I wish someone had been able to get through to her before the (inevitable) end.

Exactly, she was an on-fire runaway train from the moment she hit the spotlight. Unfortunately it was only a matter of time.

Wow, she really was so talented, my girl loved her. Quite a few very talented singers have died at that age (27), Janice Joplin, Jimmy hendrix, Jim Morrison, etc... RIP Miss Winehouse.

I dunno, sadly Camden has become so fucked up, much worse that ten years ago when I was living there. Coming from Hackney for various reasons I kind of felt home in Camden, it wasn't perfect back then but no way near the mess it's in now.
I'm not surprised that she decided to move to Camden in the first place: it's a piece of piss just to walk down the street, pick up some drugs and go back home and do them. Ok, AW was famous et al but I'm sure there are a lot of other people finishing up in the same way in that area, why isn't anyone doing something for Camden, what's the council or the government doing? Back ten years ago there were probably half the pushers on the streets and way less violence (and half the Wagamamas and fancy places). I remember news of some knife crimes but now it's really evident after you walk for five minutes down the street, especially at night. I was shocked last time I was there when I saw these kids throwing glass bottles and chasing this other guy with knives and the police arriving and arresting a few, the situations was just nuts (and clearly beyond the police's control), all just off camden road at 6.30 pm.
If you watch The Wire there's this point, I think between third and fouth season, where the police allowed drug use within a certain area of Baltimore... they called it 'Hamsterdam'... sadly reminds me of Camden...
Having said all this the Amy Winehouse news is sad. I've never been a fan but I think she was an incredibly gifted singer. A voice that could've come from the tamla motown catalogue.

I dunno - this made me feel genuinely sad - great voice, but a victim of addictions I guess. Those of of us who dont suffer from that kind of emptiness that constantly needs filling are the lucky ones.

"that kind of emptiness that constantly needs filling" - I think you just described toy collecting. Whenever I think I am done, I need to get more. Just one more and then I swear I am done. I mean it this time.

Just sad that no one could turn her around or that she didn't have the strength herself.

Having struggled with addictions (other than purchasing stupid pieces of plastic) I know what the downward spiral can be like. Kinda reminds me of that Breaking Bad scene where his girlfriend ODs.

I totally agree, although I wasn't an Amy Winehouse fan I felt sad just watching her last performance in Belgrade. Who the fuck sent her on a stage in those conditions? I think that those who don't suffer that kind of emptyness can't actually understand what happened, too easy to say it was pathetic.
