So I loved this book and was glad it was going to be made into a film BUT I read this:

December 2012 is looking bleak now. I really hope it's not going to turn into CGI Zombie fuckfest, with nothing related to the book at all. Seems to be heading there though.

Yeah. It's a shame that Hollywood has to fuck with everything.
There's a chance it will stand on it's own as a good zombie flick. But from the sounds of it, any hope of it doing the book justice is out the window.

I kinda felt from the start it wouldn't make a good movie. By that I mean Hollywood movie, something for a mass audience. I think it could have been made well as a fake doc. type film, doing "interviews" with the survivors and showing footage from news reels or security cameras or uncovered military filming etc. Then people would complain about the "Blair Witch Shakey Cam" but I can't see it worknig as well any other way. The book didn't have a straight plot/main character etc.

Anyway, yea, kinda looks like it'll suck. Maybe it should have been a series/mini-series done in an "interview/stock footage" type manner?

Melek, Especially since they are releasing on 12/21/12 (misprint? was is suppose to be 12/12/12?) the supposed end of the Mayan Calendar doomsday. Come on really? Savvy marketing or corny idea? "Ooohh I'm just a dumb idiot I'll go see an end of the world movie on the supposed end of the world day?" Pitt better not save the world!

Man I just finished WWZ this weekend, and I was really impressed with the themes Brooks was able to cover. It was also clear that he did his homework on the military angle, including the stresses of combat and what it does to people. Fuck. Hollywood. I bet some teenagers with a camcorder could do a better job by making some sock puppets and sticking with the tone of the book.

 I hadn't noticed that. I am sure that will be part of their ad campaign.
Seems this is headed toward more of a "capitalize on zombie popularity and end of times propaganda" type of production rather than a faithful to the original, well thought out and well executed movie.

I'm just going to pretend the movie doesn't exist. Why would they not have Brad Pitt in action packed Zombie fights. Max Brooks was at C2E2 a couple of years ago and he pretty much called this happening then.

"...will take place as the zombie world war is breaking out when there is still time to stop it -- completely different from the premise -- and the timing -- of the book."

Why even attach WWZ name to it?
Just to attract people who've heard of the book and not read it, and to piss off fans who've read it?

It was like calling the "Dawn of the Dead" remake "Dawn of the Dead" Honestly other then a mall and zombies, there was nothing in common between the two. I'm glad Romero got some cash for it, and I'm glad Max is going to get some cash for this, but still sucks. I can't complain really, the movie's crap-tacularness won't take away the book's awesomeness from me.

I was looking on IMDB and both Bryan Cranston and Matthew Fox are in this movie. I might have to see this movie (I'm sure it will not even get 10% close to how good the book was). I mean the guys who play Walter White and Jack Shepard?
