| Post subject: | Concerns about a seller in BST thread |
I picked up a toy from a member here via his sales thread a couple weeks ago and had great initial communication from him. On Fri the 12th he wrote to say he'd received my payment and would be mailing the next day. The following Thursday I wrote him a polite note inquiring on the status of our transaction, and he received it but did not reply. A day later I wrote him again, stating that I was now getting a little concerned but would still be happy to get a status report of any sort. Again, the mail was opened but not responded to. Yesterday I wrote him a letter, still polite, I think, saying that I really didn't want to have to go public with questions about him, but would probably have to if I was still receiving the silent treatment. Well, it's a day later and still no response of any sort. I'm unsure what the next step should be. For whatever reasons I'm still inclined not to drag his name through the mud just yet - I still want the toy, maybe he's been great to everyone else, etc - but am hoping to get some feedback as to what you more experienced boardies think I should do. Anyway, here's a link: XXXX Please PM me so I can delete this if my questions are out of line. Or maybe I'm just being a Nancy and should be blowing up his thread... Hmm. Thanks! ----- edited to remove the link. Posts showed up so thread deletion is no longer an option. ----- further edited to remove a glaring typo in the subject heading! |

The 12th? Then you pounded him daily with PM's? I don't know the guy, but things happen and he may be a slow shipper due to his move. Good luck. Hope you get your stuff. |

I would post something in the original thread. Not start a new one. Plus it's only been 9 days since the seller received the cash. Some people (including myself) lag at messaging back. Second did you pay in cash again? If so you run the risk of getting burned. If you are over 18 I would get a paypal account. You seem to buy a lot so why not use one? There's no reason not to. I would be extremely hesitant to send cash to anyone and to someone who has a low post count. |

I'd say POUNDED is a little extreme, my PMs were polite and started out of curiousity - he said was shipping priority on a Saturday, and when the usual travel time passed by a few days I just asked if everything was okay. I don't mind waiting for a toy at all, but the fact that he read my PMs and still hasn't gotten back to me is where my concern came from. That's all. bryce_r wrote: I would post something in the original thread. Not start a new one. I started this thread to avoid smudging the guy in that manner, as everything may well still be on the up and up. I wanted opinions here or in my PM box rather than messing his sale up with haste. bryce_r wrote: Second did you pay in cash again? If so you run the risk of getting burned. I would be extremely hesitant to send cash to anyone and to someone who has a low post count. Fair enough, but I've had nothing but snag-free transacting in over twenty years of using the envelope method. I used to use PP as well, but a couple years ago, while I was out of the country and off the net, someone hacked into my PP account and racked up a ton of money. When I was settled back in the USofA and discovered the problem I had to go through MONTHS of hassle with PP, as if I was the criminal, and it still hasn't been resolved to my satisfaction. So there's my reason. Kind of left a bad taste for me. I may miss out on the Y!J and Mandrake parade, but with the sunken dollar I'm in no hurry to re-expand my toy spending potential, and if a seller here isn't isn't into it, it's easy come easy go. I'm thankful that I've had such good luck in finding folk that are happy to wait a couple days and avoid sellers fees. |

It's funny when people tell me they sent something out, a couple days later I write them back to no answer than the next afternoon they send me a tracking number, and the tracking number says the item was sent out that morning.. I've had that happen more than once with multiple people... |

I don't know, speaking for myself, I can only say that on this forum I take a very relaxed view when it comes to the BST thread. We are all just like-minded toy fans, so whether this whole sense of community esxists completely in my head or not, I still choose to see it that way. Were this ebay, or some other form, sure, it would be different; but I see this like arranging something with your friend. Some folks are speedy gonzalez, other friends are occasional space cadets, but it's all cool. I think SBers are a pretty chill crowd. I can understand your initial hesitancy though. In these type or transactions the buyer does hold all the power, and you can easily be shafted, but I think this is very rare on SB, and any such individuals are quickly outed. I would also just add that not everyone can check the forum (and PMs) regularly. We take it for granted that everyone has ease of access to the internet, and also is not busy with their real lives. |

while I agree that communication is important especially on the seller side, I get annoyed easily when the day after a trade or sale, I get a PM asking if I have sent the package. Then another PM two days later asking if I sent the package again. |

How long do packages from Japan take to Australia? Any ideas? I've had thousands sent from the USA and HK and even entire toy lines shipped but never had a seller send me something from Japan before. It's been two weeks and I'm getting antsy in the pantsy. |

If it's sent EMS usually less than a week. |

I actually appreciate being prompted and try to be as precise as possible but due to the lack of response coming from some SB members I'm not surprised if this happens. Overall I think communication is essential on both sides but yes, even more on the seller side. Good relationships eventually will bring me back to the seller for more, bad or little response means I won't buy again. |

Daaamn I bought a GBT Boogie from Iron Horse last year and it came immediately. .... with a slit wrist. Then he made good and exchanged it w/ the clear/GID Boogie. .... also with a damn slit wrist! Luckily I had a spare clear arm. rhinomilk wrote: I'm still waiting for a package from Iron Horse from November... forget if it is November '09 or '10 |
