We capped off the 9/11 anniversary with a viewing of Four Lions last night; fucking great movie. Hilarious and right on; excellent example of what powerful medicine comedy can be. "Rubber Dinghy Rapids, bro!" |

Only the English can really do black comedy like that. I loved the part where they used a kid's social networking site to communicate, with the little penguin avatars. Also the scene with the rocket launcher. I felt most sad about the poor crow. He reminded me of stories I've heard of mentally disabled youths being used as suicide bombers. They probably have no idea what's going on. Just super scared. At least a crow wouldn't be afraid. But it really highlights how callous the people who plan these attacks can be. |

I just watched it this weekend too! Liked it quite a lot, though it wasn't what I was expecting...for some reason I thought it'd be more similar to something like Hot Fuzz. But I really liked how they portrayed their lives as ordinary - just editing terror videos at the breakfast table with a loving and adoring family. |

I'd go as far as calling it a perfect satire. It makes you laugh front to back all the while calling attention to a world of horrifying truths. For using such broad strokes it remains spectacularly subtle as it stabs at your awareness and moral foundation. Another feather in Chris Morris' well festooned cap. A cap initially earned in the world of fake news back in '91- youse guys know On the Hour? It's where Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci got their starts as well! Here's a link to the first one for you. Feel free to PM me if you want more. |

Some of the more horrifying moments reminded me of Terry Gilliam (I know, technically he's American...), especially bringing Time Bandits to mind. I loved that movie when I was a kid, and what really blew me away was how it depicted death and gruesome nastiness as matter-of-fact and humorous. |

He was also great in the firt season of The IT Crowd. |

Thanks for the link Toothaction Yeah, the radio show was awesome, but his early TV work is mind blowing! The Day Today and Brass Eye were so ahead of their time. The audacity of modern tv journalism actually had to catch up - it was like Morris and his friends wrote the template for how bad reportage could get, and the media turned around and copied their satire as a way to broadcast! I'd say Chris could do no wrong, but here's a link to a short film of his called My Wrongs. |

Four Lions is awesome. Chris Morris is hilarious. I loved him on The I.T. Crowd. Have any of you seen The Infidel? It's not a Chris Morris film, but again seems to be something that only the English could pull off. Funny stuff. |
