Oh shit! Awesome. Mr. Lo-Fi himself. I have never seen him live, but I would love to someday. Have fun, I'm sure you will.

I've always known him as a one man band. What are his shows like? Does he have people stand in? Regardless, have fun.

Yes, it was a rare treat, because in 40 years of pumping out amazing music, RSM had never toured... until this year. (And if your life has not yet been touched by him, behold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1MfeLx6 ... U8OQu1xJ-e). Reading the show announcement on Wednesday spurred me to dig around for info; apparently, he and the two young fellows he played with last night toured the US and Europe this summer as the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund their travels. They are up in our neck o' the woods to play Pop Montreal; a local musician and huge RSM fan, Joey Pizza Slice, arranged the show at the last minute, and drove up to Montreal last night to fetch the band and bring them back down to Burlington.

The night was a comic semi-disaster that was repeatedly salvaged. Joey has never been on an airplane/in an airport before, so first he had a lot of trouble figuring out where to meet the band. Then, they got a bit lost driving back to VT... so RSM's set started very late. He took the stage looking like a psychedelic Santa Claus in mismatched pyjamas and shades. His stage banter was authoritative, surreal and hilarious. The band RIPPPED many classic RSM tunes. So good… the guy really is a pop genius, and the two guys he was playing with obviously love the music and love playing with him.

After about 6 tunes, the cops came in, and found too many people in the semi-legal show space. The show was halted, and it looked like they wouldn’t be able to go back on. After about 25 minutes of discussion w/ the cops, the guy who was running the space came in and told us that the show could go on… we just needed to move everyone and everything across the hall, to the larger (and fully sanctioned) space. So, PA, mixer, amps, drums, cables, mics, etc etc were all grabbed by the band and audience members. And within another 30 mintues, the show began again. By then it was about 1:30… we finally threw in the towel at about 2:30 and headed home, feeling that it had all been worth it.

i saw r stevie moore play with ariel pink in NYC, and it was a disaster, but a fun one to watch. listening to a grown man say " swag" over and over and run around with toilet paper was a little weird, but i was just happy he played 'i like to stay home' . he was mostly just yelling all of his lyrics anyway.

He played at The Bakery, the semi-underground gathering space in the Old North End Studios.

I gotta say, I wasn't sure what to expect, performance-wise, but it was really great... pretty damn tight, whimsical, strange, unnerving at times... perfect, really.
