Wow, so sad that this came so soon after he retired. I haven't been a Jobs fan for a while but no one can deny his mark on our world.

I never really got into the whole “cult” stuff surrounding Steve Jobs or Apple, but I generally like tools and equipment that works. And no matter what anyone says, even when Apple stinks, their stuff works better than 90% of the stuff out there.

Past that who here works in some form of desktop publishing or uses a personal computer to do art/design work? WIthout Apple there is 100% no chance the current desktop publishing/design world would ever exist. Even if you work on a PC doing that stuff Steve Jobs & Apple made it commonplace. Xerox Parc might have though up the ideas, and Steve Wozniak helped get the tech together, but Steve Jobs is the guy who brought it all together.

And to be gone at 56? Think about how much that guy did in that short time on Earth? Amazing. R.I.P.

Only a true visionary could bring us some of the most innovative products ever seen and do it all without including instruction manuals.

Very sad news. I wasn't expecting it so soon. Not quite sure how to express what I feel as I've been an apple user for over 20 years, always had one after my Quadra (and quite a few ipods). I still remember seeing a Next at a trade fair many years ago and leaving in awe. RIP.

Well said. I was convinced by a diehard Apple user in 2001 or 02? to buy my first iMac because of this great new device called a iPod. Everyone else made fun of me for it but I wonder how many people who use to make fun of Mac's use them now? Once I had my first Mac I never looked back.

Jobs was a true innovator and always seemed in touch with his base. He seemed to really enjoy bringing new technology to the masses. Very sad he died so young.
