I've already looked online but is roku worth it? It seems extremely economical compared to paying 60 for cable everymonth

However how do you watch live sports? Is it better to get basic cable for 20 and then use roku for netflix/hulu etc?

a jailbroken appletv is better, with xbmc/ plex/ navi-x and icefilms.

I have the sony version of roku, its not to bad. It has youtube, netflix, hulu, crackel, amazon prime, and others that I havent explored yet. No spots tho. I have basic cable and it sucks. I only use it to watch the news .

I got rid of regular cable because they were charging me $170 a month.

I just use Netflix on my Xbox and have my laptop hooked up direct to the TV for any streaming/other options I want to use. I SHOULD get a wireless keyboard/mouse so I can be lazy, but I've never gotten to it. I don't care about sports, so no answers there. No cable.

yep. Netflix on PS3 or stream wirelessly from my library & roommates networked library to PS3 from PC using PS3 Media Server (awesome freeware).
Can't see desktop but can see all shared folders, way more organized than just using the stock XMB networking options. Cable is obsolete & I would never pay for HULU or anything, why pay someone to force you to watch commercials during shows that with a little initiative you could've watched for free & commercial free an hour before they aired in your time zone? Netflix is worth the $7 though just bc I'm too lazy to look for things to watch sometimes & it's nice to just click on something random.

And if you wanna see your desktop & use your browser then just connect PC/MAC HDMI or S-Video out to ur TV & there are apps (if you have a smart phone) that make ur phone a wireless mouse. Don't really see a point to things like Apple TV when the computers come with built in options for doing the same things.

All good tips but what about live streaming? I don't own any game consoles. I don't follow to many sports online but I do like to watch them at home rather than go to a bar.

Live sports are pretty much the only reason "TV" or cable as we grew up with exists as far as I can tell. The money, the ads, it's the only thing I can see keeping it alive.

Has anyone with a Roku checked out the Goohead channel? They have Ultraman dubbed, and subtitled versions of Red Baron and Iron King. IRON KING, fer chrissakes!

For the price the Roku is better then an Apple TV.

Plex is an awesome media center/streamer (free).
