Mesmerizing, hilarious, sad and frequently NSFW:
http://internetkhole.blogspot.com/

I love the concentration on the 80s, and the random insertions of famous people here and there (Kurt and Courtney, Madonna). Some of these appear to be press shots or taken from magazines, while others (like all of the red carpet shots of the “Fire Walk With Me” cast, or the shots of Arsenio Hall) appear to have been taken by fans.

I truly love this site; so rewarding, page after page.
Some of the pics are heartbreaking; others are gross; all of them are humbling.
Apparently, it's the work of a woman who owns a Nashville junk shop called Angel Dust.

NSFW be damned, that is such a great site. Some really sweet photos in there. Some might make a lot of us laugh, others bring a tear to the eye. I think a lot of the appeal is making the subconcious personal connections to the lives of complete strangers. I was just at this castle not too long ago. I love to see photos like this taken in a whole different light.

So many stories captured for all time, that might be already long gone to those that lived them. Excellent - from the hilarious and soft to the utterly bizarre. I can already see the hours flying by perusing in nostalgia and analysis (social and otherwise). Thanks for sharing this!

I love that site! At the end of my sophomore year of college, 90% of the kids had left campus, so there were a lot of empty dorm rooms. Somebody went dumpster diving behind a photomat and dumped severs garbage bags FULL of photos on the floor in this one room. There was some really creepy stuff in there, like photos of child mannequins in a bathtub and a bunch of photos of a meat market in China. This site reminds me of that.

I'm with you on missing the 80's...no responsibilities, reading comics, playing NES, finding stuff to jump my bike off of. Ah, the good ol' days.

I used to run a site kinda-sorta like that. The self-imposed rule was that I could only post photos found in publicly shared directories on P2P networks (I always used the DC++ app,) and that each photo had to catch my eye in some way or another. It's safe to view at work if anyone's interested: Photos Phound

Nice spot, Dean!

My friend Yanbu has been doing much the same thing since 2004 --- http://www.foundphotos.net/

Image

"The Found Photos project started in 2004, while searching for mp3's using a filesharing program. After downloading a folder of mp3's, I came across a folder named 'pictures' inside of the album folder, and found a handful of digital camera photos. This made me wonder what else was out there, what people are publicly sharing - after a few quick keyword searches I came across thousands of them publicly shared."

Image

"The FoundPhotos Archives consist of my filtered view from thousands of images downloaded via peer to peer filesharing networks, updated semi-regularly.
"

Image

He's slowed down over the last few years as other projects have eclipsed his interest in it, but over 130 well-curated pages still exist over in his archive. If you felt like killing an hour or two I'd suggest starting at the beginning and working your way through - much hilarity, unexpected beauty and mundane strangeness to be had.

Image

Things came full circle when he called me up a couple of years ago telling me that he'd just put a picture into his latest update that looked a lot like me...

Image

...it was me!

I had a big talk about this recently....what I like about this site is that you don't get photos like this anymore because in a digital age people just erase photos they don't want. There's a site out there devoted to photos of those people who jump in and ruin other peoples photos....and they're HILARIOUS but they point out you can't do it anymore because people just erase them.
It also has photos where complete strangers have jumped into wedding photos and family photos and nobody knows who they were...also doesn't happen anymore.....gets erased.
Sad days!
I used to love doing that shit.
