Post subject:  Paypal frozen account?

So today I was in the middle of paying for some postage, and bam, "add your band account to immediately verify your locaton". There were some other things I could do, (and did do) to unfreeze it, like send a photo of my i.d. but as of now my account if frozen and I can't send any money. Does anyone know how long it takes to get your account back online, after it been frozen, and you finish their checklist?

Sounds like you got redirected to a decoy site and scammed. I could be wrong but having you send a picture of your ID is very suspicious and sounds more like a Nigerian scam artist than a financial institute. Seems like someone fishing for your personal information. Did you look up PP's phone number off site and call them? I am just guessing since I have never been through this but most sites that deal with money never ask you for tons of personal info to "verify" yourself.

I have to agree with Daimyo on this one. I have had my account frozen before, and have dealt with Paypal many times besides. I find it highly unlikely you would ever send them a photo, let alone any of my private information they didn't already have. Usually they are the first people to tell you never to give out your info, and have been very good with addressing Paypal themed phishing emails.

I'm going to have to look into this, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get phished, I was using paypal to send money to usps for shipping when it became frozen. Paypal, had me send them a photo i.d. when I created my account. I can see all my info, and I can still receive money, I just can't send it.

Paypal has new rules that they can ask for you to send your i.d. at any time, but it was supposed to be enacted until april.

Gotta agree with the others. I've never heard of paypal requesting a photo ID. What's the use of a photo ID when all transactions are done electronically? Awful fishy.

I was forced to add a bank account (instead of just a credit card) once I reached an initial spending limit, but I was getting emails about this the entire way.

This should be the customer service number listed

1-888-221-1161

you will have to get a verification code. I don't see anywhere on the site where they say they can ask for ID. If anything finding someones ID would give you access to their account not to mention how easy someone could photoshop an ID. What if you don't have a government ID? I hope I am wrong but I would be suspicious.

This is the info I get from them in my account, I can also overview my money and reach my balance screen. The third photo is the updates to their identification policy.

BTW thanks for the number D, I'll see what they say.

Seems fairly legit, although very odd. In all my years on the inet no one has ever asked for my ID. Hopefully it's all sorted and legitimate.

What really sucks is I have a nice little amount of money in my account, that I just put in there for emergency toy buying. I'm really bummed about this whole thing. They told me it can take up to 48 hours to get it cleared.

They have already notified us of the new Nazi glove policy, so get ready for more of this next month. Time to encourage use of other money transfer sources before the gloved fist strikes us all! F@#king Paypal!

I remember Google having something called checkout, I think. Not sure what else there is other than the old-fashioned methods (wire, bank check, money order, etc).

Hidden cash, man! At least when dealing with continental matters.
It was the North American way in the decades before they figured out how to make money on EVERYTHING!
Money Orders, even - sure, instant gratification goes out the window, but at .50cents to a buck ten it's A LOT cheaper than fees on both ends for just about EVERY transaction. Plus stamps are pretty.

As for the rest of the world... I'm open to suggestion.

I've heard great things about Dwolla, and not just because I know the developer. :)

https://www.dwolla.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwolla

It was developed on the highly effective Oauth 2.0 framework.

Thanks Scott. I'm partially registered so I'll give it a try when the chance comes.

Sounds good Bert.

With the rise in mandatory PCI Compliancy within the software development community, the days of Paypal dominance in the online financial transaction marketplace are numbered. With the rising consumer confidence in micro-credit platforms coupled with the emergence of the use of Memcached in online software architecture (used by wikipedia, facebook, twitter, etc.) to vastly limit overall bandwidth costs to start-ups, it's only a matter of time before many more favorable options to Paypal arise.

I just got everything cleared up, after talking to a rep on the phone. She said that recent account activity had seemed strange and Paypal was taking a precautionary step against any fraudulent activity. What happened was I refunded an international payment, then sent a invoice to the person who's payment I refunded, and then accepted a payment, from the same person. I just wanted a invoice of the transaction for personal files. She also said that I shouldn't have had the block on my account yet, but that very soon, it would become a common practice and I should make sure to have a copy of my Drivers License on my computer.

Today was a headache, and after being schooled on the update to their policies starting April 1st (paypal will soon have the right to snoop through your personal life) I'm going to look into using another service.

It's funny that the changes start April 1st as well, seems like a really bad joke.

I had this sort of hiccup with Paypal before, for a short time I actually had to change my password every time I logged in - it was insane.
The best way to handle bullshit like this with Paypal (AND eBAy) is over the phone. It makes everything MUCH quicker than playing a mouse-click guessing game. I know a bunch of people have an unreasonable hatred of taking care of stuff by phone, but I'd rather talk to Paypal's phone reps than my bank/credit card reps any day.
