Hey fellow toy hounds I'll be @ Florida's Gulf Coast around Panama City Beach from ... well in a few hours actually (I should sleep soon), until next Sunday. For the life o me, I can't find any info online about stores in this area that sell vinyl or "designer" toys. Perhaps they may sell some at Record or Comic Book stores, some cool Flea Markets, but again, I'm at a loss. So I thought, well who would know any better than you cool cats anyway Any suggestions, skullbrain? |

Thanks for the suggestion, Geekabilly. I don't think I'll be able to hit it this time though. I'll be about 6.5 hrs NW in Panama City Beach... I really don't think there's anything down there. Oh well, I'm used to nothing of the sort being around, althoughit sure would've been Yeah, I wasn't feeling well enough to travel yesterday. Today's my last chance, so hopefully I'll feel up to it post lunch. |

andy wrote: Is Uberbot still around? Uberbot is a weird story. They closed years ago because they were moving to a new location, and that was supposed to be a quick transition. I think the new store was supposed to open like a month later, and there were financial backers and stuff helping them out. Then after a couple months, they said that they couldn't get the new place they wanted, but there was another location that they had their eye on, and that it would be a few more months till they would get in there. That was around 2009. About once every year or two they would pop into the KR forum or on Facebook or Myspace and say that they have "exciting news" coming soon, hinting that they would be reopening. Then nothing for months or years. That being said though, they've been posting to their Facebook a bunch lately, mostly just posts about their old shirts or their old staff, but this time it feels a bit more substantial than their usual weird little hints. Here's one of their recent Facebook posts: Uberbot wrote: Just a quick note to say hello. As many of you know, Überbot has been plagued with a legal battle that has kept us from being who we are. Things are starting to normalize now so we're looking to have a little fun. We miss you. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement in the coming weeks! So in short: Who knows? Hopefully these teases aren't empty, because it's been a long time since I was able to go into a vinyl toy store. |

Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. I think the only toy store I've been to in Florida is actually way south -- Tate's. An ex of mine's parents live a few miles from there, so we always stopped by when we were in town. So many KRappy toys bought, oops. The ice cream shop nearby has a rad 'Smurf' flavor. My roommate told me that some antique store here in St. Pete on Central Ave. has a room with old toys and crap that I'd like, but I can't recall the name right now. Then of course there's Green Shift Comics in Tampa for comics (duh), movie toys, action figures, etc., that type of stuff. Sorry I'm not much help, I don't have much experience on that side of FL. |
