TCM is showing 6 utterly worthwhile Japanese films tonight, starting with 4 by the one and only Ishiro Honda:

Gojira (1954); Rodan (1956): Mothra (1961); and the criminally underknown SF great The-H-Man (1958).

As if that weren't plenty, they're following up the showcase with a screening of Nobuhiko Obayashi's Hausu (1977), which, if you haven't treated yourself to it yet, is about the most unique viewing experience you're likely to find. A genre of it's own.

Slightly out of place, but in no way unworthy of a watch, Nagisa Oshima's Empire of Passion (1979) is showing next. It's a very strange and atmospheric semi-sequel to In the Realm of Passion, involving doomed romance, murder, ghosts, a haunted well and some of the most gorgeous cinematography of the four seasons I have ever seen.

Just sayin'.

Cool that they mentioned August Ragone in their review of The H Man...
