if you can find a flat graphic or flatter photo, you could try to run it through whatthefont.com |

Thanks for the suggestion, but WTF already failed me. Did a search on the WTF forum, and found several other people looking for the same thing, with no replies. |

1001 fonts will help you find something similar if you can nail the right category. |

I deal with fonts every day . . . I would guess that the embroidery machine operators have changed an existing font to suit their needs. Its a pity What the Font doesn't do very well with cursive text . . . . If you look at the larger capitals they look a bit wonky like they have been free-handed to suit the rest of the script . . . the R & K look especially shaky. |

Nope, I think it's a proprietary font that the different hat manufacturers are making. If you look at the same style hats from multiple companies, you'll see that there's variations in the font. |

Didn't really know where else to put this, so I thought I would just throw it here. I am sure James will get a kick out of it, and maybe some other folks would appreciate the humour. We are talking about typefaces here, so even for SB this is a niche crowd. So. In case you haven't heard, a boson (maybe the Higgs Boson, but let's not jump the gun) particle was finally observed (more news here). This is indeed a breakthrough discovery, especially for science nerds like me, but was not the only important point of note coming out of CERN. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our old friend Comic Sans: http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourcommunity/2012/07/do-you-use-the-comic-sans-font.html

The closest I could come, was Kerning, but the G still throws me off, I think it's a proprietary version of Kerning, with specialty work done in Illustrator. |

How embarrassing. But hey, at least it's not Papyrus? I've slowly been working on an A to Z 'This Font Fucking Blows' series, nearly halfway done. It's always difficult finding multiple fonts that blow for a certain letter, but one usually blows just a bit harder. Here's a sample: ![]() Typography / design nerd thread? |

I could probably spend an entire day listing the fonts that I hate. Comic Sans is on there, but my absolute most hated font of all time is thankfully no longer included with Macs, so I don't see it being used much anymore. I give you Sand: ![]() slipstar01 wrote: The closest I could come, was Kerning, but the G still throws me off, I think it's a proprietary version of Kerning, with specialty work done in Illustrator. Michael, you got a link for this guy? "Kerning font" probably won't help much in a Google search. |

That font just seemed like a dime store version of Skinner's lettering. I though it was funny, but I may or may not be missing a chromosome... |

I thought you had the wrong thread. Moog -- I think I have Brush Script in there, such a classic bad font. I think I'll have to include Funstuff, thanks for the heads up. That's so awful and the name is so silly that it made me lol. It's the exact font a mom would use in a neighborhood newsletter about the local swimming pool opening back up after little Jimmy had his 'incident,' or for homemade jam labels or something equally mommy (no offense to moms). Funstuff. James -- I'd never seen Sand and I'm glad I haven't until now. I could probably use your help (or anyone else's) with certain letters. I can't check which ones I'm missing right now, but definitely feel free to throw some of your most hated out there. We can turn it into a collaborative effort. I'm assuming you guys do design work. At least once every couple of weeks I do a design for a customer where I know that using a classic bad font (Papyrus, Brush Script, Impact) will get the job done and they will absolutely love it. I feel dirty for doing this, so please tell me I'm not alone. |

Most customers are thankfully just happy to trust your experience in design and apart from a few minor amends will go with what you give them . . . as long as they supply a decent brief to begin with of course! Other customers want to be really involved and get their money's worth by suggesting all kinds of stupid crap . . . 15 revised proofs later with no end in sight and you start fantasizing about choking them to death with your mouse cable . . . |

^ How about 41 revisions, after which your client lands on the first version you ever sent them as the final? |

I've hated that brush script font and similar "nostalgic" fake-script fonts of that ilk since the late '70s. By the time "New Wave" design went mainstream in the early 80s, it was ubiquitous. It looks just awful, and definitely doesn't look like anything actually done by hand. However if I recall correctly it was used for titles in the movie "Drive" (in pink!) which was hilariously clever as an intentional flashback to the era. |
