Anyone know where to find info on how the whole "Double Pour" process works?

I mean this

I have always assumed that after the outer poor is complete and cooled another batch of vinyl just hot enough not to re-liquefy the shell is poured in and slushed around then cooled the same way as the first. It would be nice to know if I am correct though, I'm sure one of our members must have seen it done or at least been given a description.

I could be wildly wrong in this, but I think the vinyl that is used to make the toys we collect can't be re-liquified. There's something that happens at the chemical level after it's been cured that prevents being able to melt it down and make another shape out of it.

I'm sure there are several regulars who can say if I'm wrong or not.

Yes as far as I'm aware jp vinyl is made up of 2 liquids, similar to resin in that respect, where as chinese vinyl comes in pellet form and is melted down.

severen sent me a video that shows some Max Toy co. vinyl being poured and pulled. I wish there was more info on this process. It might be something designers do not wanna share though.

or, you know, you could search around and find the videos and threads that were posted on here in the past.

Here's the thread with links to the videos. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34520

I am pretty sure that the chemical change that occurs due to the heating is basically one-way, creating chains or webs of molecules in the plastic that will retain their structure if re-heated. That's why you can hit vinyl with a hairdryer and it will deform, but return to it's original shape. Although heat it up enough an it will burn. Search for that goga!

Yeah, because using the search function and looking around for a few couldn't find you at least 5 threads I can remember in the past having to do with what you were just dieing to know.
