Hi, Wondering if anyone can assist with this. I bought an LP on discogs (person to person-similar to ebay). The seller did not offer me insurance, but did purchase signature confirmation so I'd have to sign for the package. The mailman brought the package and left it out in a rainstorm, and the LP is ruined (water damaged/ jacket warped beyond repair). Do I have any recourse? I don't want to screw the seller (he assumed it would not be left outside if it required a signature, so he did not opt for insurance). I live in a safe neighborhood and the mailman usually leaves packages regardless of signature requirements. I paid him through paypal. I have photos of the damage, all the contents, the original packaging, and proof of value (but no insurance since the seller didn't provide it). It was $55. Is there anything I can do? |

Missy...I'm not a 100% sure but I thought now you are automatically insured up to $100 or $200. |

I would take it to your nearest post office and raise hell. It should be the responsibility of the post office since the post man left it in the rain. I have had a private mail box since the early '90s to prevent such problems. I also make sure the private mail box can receive all types of mail - USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc... |

I know this sounds like a huge hassle considering the long waits at USPS these days but I would go to your local PO (where your mail is routed out of) and ask to speak to a supervisor, maybe even call ahead. I'm sure they have some kind of claim you can file regarding damaged parcel even without insurance? Stupid mailman claim? |

^^^ exactly my thought.... Had they put it in a plastic bag, or left it in a dry place, this still would not excuse the not having you sign BS I think you have a great case..... It may take some wait time to get a hold of someone to make the claim, but it should be doable.... It is a government place of employment..... So you can raise hell by sending emails to the better business bureau, Writing any public authority..... And I understand not screwing the seller. I know some would just send it back and say sorry, or some would just say it was never received due to you not actually signing for it.... I also would ask how much is it worth? is it easily replaceable? And if you feel a few hours will be worth it to get your money back, go for it... I think you can get a refund minus the shipping from usps. I'm also not certain if you can make a issue via Paypal, or if there is any recourse for shippers, I doubt it.... Good luck!!! Let us know how it goes!! |

So you didn't sign for it and it was left anyways??? If that's the case, it's the fault of the postman for leaving it. Go to the post office and RAISE HELL! |

it is no longer called "Delivery Confirmation" its called USPS Tracking! i asked the post lady if this means that they changed how it works and may actually be useful to track items in real time. and she said no. just a name. hahah. |

I've known instances of even someone with an insured package getting screwed because the USPS screwed up, but since they marked it delivered, they washed their hands of it. Good luck, but the USPS is such a poorly run organization that you will probably not see favorable results. Sorry. |

when dealing with brick wall customer service (you are going to get nowhere no matter how in the right you are) I like to take the ragefull asshole route, just offhandedly say "how much is it going to cost for you to make me happy? how much is it going to cost for you to replace your windows 3 time?" it has moved mountains for me before |

I decided that it wasn't worth my time or bother. Skylar saw how upset I was and just bought me another one. |

Noooooooo! When you give up the terrorists win. Also, the Commies. And Obama, especially him. Well I am glad it is something that was in the end replaceable Missy. The worst part of these type of ordeals for me is when you get shafted out of something that you can't get again, and don't even really want your money back - I mean, yeah you do, but it doesn't help console the loss of a prized purchase. |
