Hey Jonah Sharp! I haven't seen his name in a while....he's brilliant. Spacetime Continuum is definitely top ten electronic acts of all time for me.

Brings back memories. he used to play tons of parties out here in the mid 90s..good stuff indeed. :)

ack! i love matthew herbert. wish i was nearby to some good stuff.

last great electronic show i went to was for Groove Armada's 2nd album. saw them at Axis in boston (which is pretty tiny) and they were touring with a small accompanying band.

really peaceful, cool and lovely.

sigh....

i always really enjoyed seeing them live. first time i saw them was at a warehouse party in cleveland in 1995. it was 7 or 8 am and they simply made everything glow.

sorry for all the reminiscing!! can't help it sometimes.

Jonah Sharp lives in SF, and I'm pretty sure he plays there often. I used to have that spacetime Continuum video with Terrence. My favorite current electronica group these days is Shpongle. I think that anybody who is into The Orb, would definitely dig Shpongle

Yeah from what I heard Sunshine and Moonbeam went their separate ways a few years back, but Sunshine played at Francois K's night in NYC not too long ago. i saw them on a beach one morning at an afterhours party here in MA. They just had their drums, but it was really really excellent.

That's too funny you were at Groove Armada at Axis. I was at that show as well, and if you were into the northeast parties we probably went to a lot of the same stuff. I went to a few of the planet parties in upstate NY, and countless others in the northeast.
FSOL is good. This is probably a stretch, but I used to love listening to Cosmic Baby as well. I'm not really a huge trance guy, but that guy made some really fantastic music.

Future Sound of London - yeah, I had a special edition of their first album, its still in London, so haven't heard it in years. I remember liking it.

Raving eh? Not sure what that catch-all phrase means to me. I think I wnet to one warehouse party, and a few clubs from 89 to 94. As a lot of my friends switched to e from beer, and dance from rock and I didn't do e and still loved guitars, it became a bit like being the sober guy at the party - so I'd rather listen to certain selections at home or in the car.

After seeing Orbital play, I was hooked. I used to think of their sound (especially on Insides) as having more in common with Phillip Glass and Steve Reich than any kind of "rave". I also liked their soundtrack work. Despite having grown out of the acid/rave scene in the UK, describing them as rave is a (g)rave disservice to them, as their music still stands the test of time, and I think will continue to do so in much the same way as some of the (so-called) new age classicists do. It is poles apart from disposeable Happy Hardcore.

Thank god we ran all the gutiar bands out of the clubs in 94' and basically took over the nightlife in most cities. I was getting sick of driving out to the desert or up to the mountains.

Now some of our heros have the sway to hire big bands to make music with. Yeah US!

relax muton. I'm joking around. No disrespect at all. I used to go to raves every single weekend from 92-94, and was very into Jungle. But c'mon...that whole culture has become a joke. All that I can listen to anymore is Aphex Twin, who really doesn't count now does he?

Neither does orbital...they actually were a band.

I mean, When was the last time you put on that Dj Icey mix?

Can you feel the music?

I haven't listen to it in awhile but I made loads selling multiple copies of his first 10 records.

There is still some good stuff going on but Trance and D&B had a devistating effect on "the sceen".

I still think herbert will be good but I would prefer to see him at the masonic than mezzanine.

I guess we were into different stuff. I actually think the music is more interesting now but nobody listens to it (which is nice).

I agree, exactly my point - Orbital were a band. The only stuff I ever really liked was stuff I could enjoy outside of a club while not under the influence. Thats the kind of stuff that has some longevity.

If u r talking about rave culture in the US becoming a joke, I don't know too much about it, apart from pacifiers (dummy's Parka ) huge pants and glo sticks - which sounds pretty funny to me, so maybe I'd agree (but from an admittedly ignorant standpoint).

Don't know anything about DJ Icey.

There is still some decent electronic being made. The Kompakt label is still churning out stuff I'm liking, and the old swedish stalwarts still put out stuff that I dig.

Actually, if you do the podcast thing, check out Makoto's weekly podcast on itunes.
It's really re-stoked the d n' b interest for me. ironically, the speaking parts are all in japanese

dont get me wrong. I'm not dissing the music at all. Never was. I was making a joke. It's like my opinion on the Dead or Phish. I dont hate the music. I hate the fans.

I'm sure the music has gotten better and better. But it's undeniable how wack the whole culture got. As in, everything BUT the music.

I completely agree with you that the people have ruined it. i refuse to go clubbing here because the people completely suck. Once in a while I'll go to NYC and go out with friends, but it's usually only when someone decent is playing and we know the crowd will be ok.
