OK . . . I'm a long-time Pixies fan who has just heard the new EP.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say its a bit disappointing.

1 Andro Queen . . . . Shit.

2 Another Toe In The Ocean . . . . Not quite as shit, but still shit.

3 Indie Cindy . . . . Better

4 What Goes Boom . . . . The best track on the EP.

Discuss.

also a long-time fan. saw them live once in 1991 and then (finally) again when they re-formed.

i haven't given the new EP a heavy rotation listen, but to me it sounds a lot more like frank black operating in a vacuum anything that has previously carried the "pixies" name. not that that's a bad thing ( i love a lot of his solo stuff), and not that they were a democratic band at any point in their existence.

I enjoy some of the riffs but the lyrics and singing style just don't have the energy that drew me into the Pixies to begin with. To be honest I have a heard time listing to any of the new songs all the way through.

Yep.

I dunno, i'm cynical by nature so i always have a hard time liking bands that reform and do new albums after a long time (Black Sabbath's recent one is another 'so-so' example).
I lost interest with the 'reformed' Pixies when Kim Deal left . . . her backing vocals were a major part of their sound for me.

Yeah, I feel ya, Moog. I was a huge fan of the Pixies but I'm not interested in checking this out enough to check it out.
