Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans.

Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source.

A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years.

Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.

I got the nendoroid set. I like the manga, couldn't care less about the anime.

It's being merchandised to oblivion, which is something that I like about Japanese manga/anime.

watched the anime with my gf, we loved when
the main character was eaten by a titan

but thought the narrative really fell apart and drifted after that.

i will not be back for season 2, which is apparently super delayed.

I actually just finished watching the series last week. I loved it. Nice and violent. My little one watched it with me, although I am not sure that it was really appropriate for him. But he really dug it.

My son forced it on me, and I wasn't super down at first. Me: "So it is a low tech feudal society with unexplained high tech elements being menaced by giant vicious smiling naked people?" My son "yes".
Now I am riveted. Can't wait for season 2. Thought I had read it started in Japan on Dec 13, but I might have made that up. I do that.

I agree that it started great and kind of fizzled out at the end. I am never a big fan of any show that uses the mystery plot device so blatantly. It's like they know exactly what we want to know so they go out of their way to never tell us. It works well for awhile but if that becomes the only reason to keep watching it leads to an inevitable letdown.

I watched it all on Netflix and loved it, eagerly awaiting season 2.

I have to admit I never got to check out the manga or anime, but the new trailer for the upcoming live-action movie is pretty fucking badass imo:

Unfortunately, the movie seems to suck.

I kind of knew when I read there would be no Levi in the movie.

Huh. Fair enough, like I said I'm not familiar with the source material - I just want titans wreaking bloody havoc. Can't be worse than Pacific Rim... :D
