Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Film is a Sequel to ‘Aliens’

In Blomkamp’s mind, that involves imagining that both Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection never happened and instead choosing to follow the footsteps of James Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens.

I like Alien 3. It was dark and nihilistic and offered no hope or light for any of its protagonists. It had its flaws but was an amazing way to end the series. I'll watch this, but take it as an alternate reality and not canon...

Unless it's really fucking cool.

I'm really excited to see what Blomkamp can do with the series - his visual sense is just fantastic. Only down side I can see is that now I'm constantly getting reminded that I'm possibly the only person in the world who doesn't like Cameron's Aliens and actually kind of enjoys Resurrection.

I liked Resurrection for the scene of Sigourney cavorting with the Aliens in the pit. :P

I haven't seen 3 in some years, but I remember the biggest problem for me being how it started out with, "Oh Newt and Hicks died way to waste your time saving her last movie". Perhaps they will still be alive in this new version, which I would appreciate, even if it just means they get killed on screen at some point.
