i dont use one, but im pretty sure you have to pay for one through a provider. Then they provide you with a connection and you log into it with a id and password. you are then connected to their virtual private network and not your own |

That is the just of it. You are tunneling your internet traffic through another server, presumably which can access the [typically localised or controlled] information, which essentially redirects the information to you. Although VPNs are a very common technical solution to business and education networks - e.g. working from offsite locations - because there has been such growth in IP masking and identity concerns, there is now a large base for commercial VPN services. But, as such, it is a business model, and therefore you will have to pay for access, usually on a subscription fee basis. |

Here's a cheap-and-easy service: https://zenvpn.net/en/ Works with Tunnelblick software. Several virtual location options. Good customer service if you need help. |
