i work full time at a pretty prominent and well known shop in NYC now, and a lot of cool records roll through. if you want me to keep an eye out for something for you, post here or PM me, I'll help out if i can. We usually get a wide range of post punk and shoegaze, but also rare gospel, jazz, world music, psyche, you name it. we just really dont get a lot of metal or hardcore unless someone pops in to sell off their collection.

Let me extend my congratulations again on the new job Michael. Great to hear you landed on your feet somewhere pretty sweet like that, and especially when you can enjoy what you do - it makes a load of difference. A truly great offer to the SB community, and one I have no doubt will cause you to be inundated with requests in no time. So, please, for the sake of sanity, anybody reading this be reasonable with your requests. We all want that rare Yanni bootleg recording. Remember this is a favour, not a shopping service. Just saying from experience and to prevent Michael from getting a headache. :) On behalf of everyone, thank you for being such a great dude and SBer.

Well said, ultrakaiju!
Michael that's very awesome of you. I'll definitely take you up on this from time to time, as I am most definitely a record nerd. Promise not to bug ya too much. Cheers and congrats!

As a former record store employee, congratulations on your new job. It's one of those things that if you love music (as a collector/ and or dj or both) that job just stays with you your whole life. And let's be honest being that close to the black crack is quite a rush and only magnifies your addiction as you find more artists and genres to love.

It's weird, toys cured my record addictions for awhile, in fact I regrettably sold records I should not have to fund toy purchases. Now I've come full circle and I'm back to buying vinyl (including records I sold). Smart enough to know this time not to sell toys though and just have dual collections going.

I have a rather large obscure jungle/drum n bass wantlist:

^ Glad to hear this! I've had the same dual collection "problem" going on forever. Been tempted to sell here & there, but every time I go to sell something I fall in love with it all over again...

No. You are wrong Lixx. You must sell off those toys to buy back the records you want. It is the more noble goal.

You know how to get a hold of me.

Lol I'm ensconced in the poly chlorides of all sorts. Probably be the death of me.

I've learned my lesson with selling things I regretted and then having to pay more to get it back. Won't do that again. Average older (93-94) jungle record I sold for $25-30 7 years ago is now costing me on average $40-60 these days plus shipping from the UK which costs a bloody mint these days. Trying tacking on $15 per record and I'ved done that probably 250 times in the past year. Will not do that with toys and then have costly regrets later (like the yen/dollar ratio gets so skewed towards Japan) and never being able to track these damn toys down again. They're rarer than older jungle records.

I've done pretty well so far. I've been a fan since the 90s and have mostly kept up, so only a few things have eluded me over the years. I actually have a Mountain Goats tattoo and am friendly with John D outside of the band. haha. Still-a few of those releases are impossible!
