What series you guys got? We just finished series 2 here on Saturday just gone.
It made me weep. And not in a good way. I wept for what they had FUCKING DONE TO THE LEGACY OF DR. WHO. That's why I wept.

See, stuff like that doesn't happen when you watch "The Bachelor"...

i guess this would be the second series of the 'new dr who'

I don't really know much about the old dr who; it doesn't do much for me. I just like the new series because it is interesting science fiction.

'moco - now THAT would be worth watching!

Bryan - Was it the episode where the skeletal guys come to Earth on the rock like Spaceship? That was a sweet episode. You see the new Dr. etc. I will be interested in hearing your thoughts as the series progresses. If you aren't keen on the older series then you will no doubt see this one differently than I did.

the episode tonight was them going to the future and visiting a hospital where these cat nurses had a cure for everything.

watching this series has made me seek out older seasons and series which i've also enjoyed.

I'll keep you posted as this one progresses though.

johnny and i grew up on the old doctor who.

not so interested in the new one. (rather leave the memories intact)

i don't really remember battlestar gallactaca (even though i have small memories of it) so i bet something like that would be easier to watch.

edit for extra horrific spelling...

I'm in a similar boat Jackie. I really grew up on Dr. Who. One of THE shows to watch as a kid. Some Dr's were better to watch than others. Tom Baker was the best ever in my book. I was excited when I heard about the new series getting done, but alas, they have done their level best to kill the legend (there is a scene in season 2 of a cyberman (and I use the term loosly) sheading a TEAR!!!!).
Now THIS is a Dr's assistant:

As for Battlestar, I really can't remember much about the series, but did skip this new one when it was on TV. Don't know why, but I am beginning to live by the code of - the original is always better.

Damn, getting old.

Is there some sort of boolean search syntax involved when using the string "Dr. Who" in Google? For some reason, it won't let me get any Dr. Who images... weird.

I've been a huge fan of the Doctor for years, (I'm a Jon Pertwee fan!) and the the new series are good, but for some reason seem to have explain everything. I used to like the Doc and Co, landed somewhere strange and weird stuff will happen.

I hoping the BBC will relase more of the original episodes on DVD.
Like Day of the Daleks, Seadevils, and Invasion of Time.

I think that it's just a case that people are dumber these days and they need shit handed to them on a silver platter. It's like cutting up a steak for a child.

The canadian sci fi channel is airing Buck Rogers too! It's on in the middle of saturday afternoon so i haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I agree, people can't be happy getting a breif three second glance at a Kaled inside a Dalek, they need to be hand held, taking the mystery out of them. But then again I'd grew up on stories like tomb of the cybermen, and could pretty much guess the villian......

I think part of the problem is that since Dr. Who was off the air for almost 15 years, you have a whole generation that didn't grow up on it. While I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find someone in the UK that hasn't at least heard of a Dalek or a Cyberman, they didn't get a chance to watch the show. Since the new show is at least trying to tie in a bit to the old one, bringing back all these baddies, they have to drop down a backstory for the benefit of the "newbies".

But as a whole the original new monsters and stories have been fun! And getting to watch the Doctor, and see new stories is great! I hope the new Doc stays for at least 3 to 4 seasons!

I understand the need to give backstory for new viewers on some of the old villains. That's a given I guess, but the general structure of the show is so different now. As Shibby says (I'm also a fan of Pertwee, just preffered Baker!) the classic series runs had the Dr and Co. landing in weird and wonderful places with shows that went of often 3 or 4 episodes if not more. Now we have mainly single episodes, majority based on Earth in the here and now or near future with no far out planets to explore at all.
I really liked the darker Dr. in the first series of the new wave, this second Dr. and Co. are like tourists blundering about - saved only by the Dr being invulnerable all of a sudden.

Wait to you see the episode involving the upcoming England Olympics....I was very nearly physically ill!!

We get the new Dr Who spin-off Torchwood tonight (anagram of doctor who). Meant to be more adult themed with Captain Jack as the main lead.

They just uttered the word 'fuck', its just not right. :?
