Post subject:  Saw deerhoof last night...
Fantastic.
First time seeing 'em live (their first show in VT, too)- loved 'em.
They ripped hard- powerful, jagged Beefheart-Nirvana-J-pop grooves.
Just wonderful.

Then the Fiery Furnaces came on and drove half the audience out.
I happen to really like the Furnaces' records, but live, they just came on a little too strong. They were very, very tight- no complaints about their musicianship- but it would be nice if they could take one or two of the million ideas they cram into any given song and extrapolate it into something a little more resonant. At least sometimes. And I guess they do that on record, actually, but that wasn't the case last night. I stayed for the first 45 minutes of their set (Wednesday night with an hour-long drive home, after all), and they were just starting their third tune when I left...

Aw, cool. Deerhoof are one of the best live bands arond. I saw them right after Apple'O came out - Greg hunched over this undersized drum kit spazzing out was one of the best live music sights I've ever seen.

I saw them when they opened up for Radiohead... maybe I was just so eager to see radiohead or I just don't get them, but they weren't my cup of tea.

I saw the furnaces open for Wilco and it was just terrible. You're right, though, on record they're tolerable but then you get them in front of an audience it seems like they enjoy torturing folks with noise. Built to Spill are like that as well...

Going to see Ted Leo/Rx and Death Cab tonight! I've seen them both numerous times, but tonight is a special occasion so i'm excited!

Almost went to see BtS last month...I was on the fence about it...guess I probably made the right choice....

I read an interview with deerhoof about their recordings in TapeOp magazine this month. I don't mind their music, but in the interview they came off as too aloof for my tastes.

i thought they were pretty cool when they opened for radiohead. Could be a tad bit hyped because of the nymph-like lead singer/ bassist, but they're swell.

Yeah you definitely made the right decision. I saw them a while back at the Middle eAst, and they were good up until the singer (doug?) started getting annoyed and then proceeded to stand in front of an amp for 45 minutes just distorting the hell out of everything and forcing people to leave due to their ears hurting.
When he turned around and saw everyone leaving he just had this big smile on his face. Not sure if they do this all of the time, but it was annoying to be sure.

We got the tickets months ago, but it also happened to fall on our two month anniversary. Yeah I know...two months is a short amount of time...but still it's pretty great! :D

I heard that he had desperately wanted to disband BtS and start a reggae band, and the others talked him out of it...maybe they made the wrong decision...

ah deerhoof is one of the few bands I love that I havent seen live. I actually saw a great fiery furnaces show a few years ago when blueberry boat came out. They crammed about 20 songs into the set, never stopped playing and were full of energy. they were always on the edge of being a little too weird for their own good, maybe they fell off.

er they played at the andy warhol musuem last friday but i think it sold out.
