This whole Hot Fudge Damnedron auction is interesting....

A few days ago, a boardmember posted an auction for the S7 Damnedron and caught some anti-flipper flack. He says he decided to keep it and cancelled the auction.

i'm curious as to what you think is more fair to the prospective buyer(s):

1. 1st to PM seller gets figure at RFSO cost
2. Auction or Bid Style where the market demand dictates the price

Well, the seller is never obligated to sell to anyone unless he wants to sell... it's up to the seller to decide how they want to sell it. Whether or not it's fair to the prospective buyer is up to them.

True.

But the 1st PM style at cost is hailed as very RFSO. Great for the the 1st PMer, but not so great for everyone else.

Auction or bid style is not considered RFSO, and sometimes (depending on many variables...who, what, when, etc.), is frowned upon. Not so RFSO, but I think more fair to more buyers because it gives everyone a chance to maybe get the figure.

Even though I was on the evil end of the auction I still have mixed feelings. I hate waking up in the morning over here and seeing all the incredible figures you guys throw up for the first one to pm or post.
But then I would hate to have to pay super high prices for a figure like today also.
So either way you do it someone is going to be upset.
At least that's what I think.

Here is why I posted tonight, and I did not do it to strike at living dead, and I am sorry for the shitstorm I stirred: on the Super 7 Damnedron I could have had 10 people show up by telling them that they could re-sell their toys for at least $100 profit, but I did not. I could have bought an extra and resold it or used it for trading ammo, but I did not. I bought one, just one. No pals, nothing. On this Pushead Damnedron, I had a reliable friend in Japan try to get me one on-line and he could not even get through (their website froze from the activity -- isnt that familiar). Then, tonight, I log in to Skullbrain and see you selling your friends Pushead Damnedron and the price quickly goes over $200. I see the picture of the 2 displayed, and I think, damn, I could have done that but the RFSO crowd would eat my ass because it just does not seem fair. Now, naturally, if I had arranged it, I would not feel the same having a friend come along to pick one up at cost, or near that, for someone out of town, if I chose, but to buy one simply to re-sell seems contrary to the "brotherhood" demonstrated here. I am not talking about retailers, just collectors. So I thought I would post the question. Should have posted it and linked rather than posting it directly, again my mistake, and for that I am again sorry. But I felt the issue had to be raised and since this figure was lost to me because too few were made (creating artificial demand probably) and due to others buying for resale, I again had to raise the issue. I saw alot of hypocritical posts though.

As for the question of this thread, there is no clear answer obviously.

Perhaps it was just your timing D. or because you personally sought after the item in that thread. Either way, if you haven't yet noticed there are over half a dozen threads doing the same thing on items that were VERY hard to get and very limited.

I guess you are right. Looks like I need to change my RFSO philosophy. When I first heard the term "trading ammo" on this board, I was amused. Perhaps that's the new way. That or getting extras to sell to make more money to buy the toys that are sold in stores outside San Francisco. If true, that's a damn pity. Live and learn. Gives me alot to think about.

just deal with people u consistently like and respect and u will have no problems.

LD is a terrific guy and is always hooking people up. he's just awesome.

and remember, if he set a price and people pm'd for it (first pm gets it) he would have been ripped up by someone who didn't get a chance to put their fair bid on it

Okay just for the record this guy wasn't trade ammo.

I was just trying to get my buddy back for fucking camping out with me.
He doesn't collect. I didn't expect that kind of reaction.
At that point what should I have done??
Just say first one to $200 wins??

Nope, you did exactly what anyone else here would do with a auction. except you could have gotten even more but you cut it short due to obvious reasons. You don't need to explain jack.

At the end of the day, a buyer is going to pay what they can afford to pay, so it shouldn't matter what the final price is, if someone is willing to pay more for something because they want it more than someone else, so be it.

tough one....personally i feel that with all the different time zones etc a RFSO raffle could be good, set a RFSO price , whoever is in is in & up for paying that price add their name to the list leave for a day so worldwide peeps can have a crack and then pick a winner out tha hat!! everyone gets a fair crack...so to speak
but then what do i know! :(

I don't consider it negative flipping if we had absolutely no access to the toy, meaning all Japan releases, especially when you know will be difficult to get even in Japan. Sleeping in line, outside over night is work and compesation is justified. Nobody here was denied this of piece because LD and Micah(sp?) purchase.

It gets me when everybody has access (S7 releases) and are out of luck because a flipper had better luck or a faster connection than you. That's when I consider it denying a fan of a toy for profit.

I could also get at least two of every S7 release because I'm always up there with my girl and when I do it's for a board member at cost, but I don't think that would be the case if we had to camp out, overnight, on the street, you'd all have to go without. 2 cents.
