There's a Filipino movie, directed by the fantastically inept Efren C. Pinon (who also did The Killing of Satan) called Blind Rage...it is my fave badfilm of all time. |

" Back to the Beach " (1987) annette and frankie head "back to the beach"... ridiculous film fueled by sometimes hilarious one liners. i can never get enough of it. pure delicious cheeze... bit parts with Dick Dale, Pee Wee Herman, Gilligan and The Skipper (names?), the Beav, his bro and June Cleaver, etc. etc. etc. |

skylar wrote: oh wait, I haven't seen Blind Rage, only The Killing of Satan. but almost any Filipino movie I've seen could be on this list Bummer, Skylar- I was psyched that someone else here knew Blind Rage...you gotta catch it someday...it's a magnum opus..... The way I discovered it was just too perfect. I think it was, like, 1994….I came home from a weird, disappointing night out at around 3:00 AM, beginning the come-down of a very confusing, very “brown” mushroom trip. I flipped on my television (I’m pretty sure it was set to Channel 9 (WWOR out of Secaucus)), and was immediately presented with something utterly unexpected and inexplicable. It was Blind Rage, the scene where the mastermind is leading his gang of blind criminals thru the motions of their planned bank robbery…and of course, he’s built a shoddy plywood replica of the bank on the roof of his home for this purpose. There was no dialogue at the moment I tuned in- just some blind dudes in 70’s fashions, on a roof at night, feeling their way around a spindly plywood structure while a suave playboy-type looked on, doing very labored French inhales. The soundtrack for this was some retarded space-age jazz vamp….I had no idea what the hell was going on. I thought that fundamental changes in television programming- and maybe entertainment itself- must have occurred some time during my night out. I remember crouching in front of my TV, gripping the sides of it, my jaw hanging open. I was agog, and it only got better (worse)….I stayed glued to the set for the rest of the flick…which, oddly, had no commercial interruptions….. Two days later, I was working at the video store when my then-girlfriend stopped by. I told her about this amazing piece of cinema, and of my ironbound determination to find a copy of it (this is pre-internet days of yore). As I went about my business behind the counter, she browsed the shelves of the cavernous joint, as was her habit…about 30 minutes later, she comes running up to me with a copy of Blind Rage in her hand- she had found it in the “Foreign” section! I immediately called my boss and arranged to buy it. We had a viewing that night, and my astonishment was undiminished. For once, it wasn’t “just the drugs”. I still give it a viewing every couple o’ years….. |
